964 targa gearbox problem
Discussion
Hi just purchased a 964 c2 targa but on drive home its popping out of 5th gear on deceleration ,only from higher speeds though , could it just be adjustment ? or worn engine mounts or serious box fault ? I can feel it pulling out of gate as I slow down if that helps any input much appreciated
I would suspect that it's internal to the 'box. Did you have it inspected pre-purchase? If not then I'd have it looked over by a specialist who sees them regularly - the whole car not just the 'box. I'd make sure there's enough oil in the 'box too, they sometimes leak out of the selector shaft seals (I think that's what it was when I was shown it on a ramp) and given it's a seldom serviced item the level may have gone down unnoticed over the years.
ok I will get checked asap thanks for reply

checked today and my left side engine mount is toast will replace both and see if that sorts before getting into box thanks for replies
My first thought was check yr mounts .......... hopefully this, easy and cheap. Best of luck.ninjacost said:

So much for inspections ...... unless they noticed a duff mount and connected it to a possible problem with popping a gear, they would never have found the gearbox problem on a test drive, if it only happens at higher speed. Wozy68 said:

My first thought was check yr mounts .......... hopefully this, easy and cheap. Best of luck. They hardly do a couple of miles and then only at around 50MPH max. So not having it inspected is no loss on this.

That depends who's doing the PPI. They hardly do a couple of miles and then only at around 50MPH max. So not having it inspected is no loss on this.
