Best drive this year, to warm your cockles!
Discussion
Having got a warped sence of reality this year from the 964 flatnose (and its 700+bhp) a recent drive of an early 911 opened my eyes in the same way getting into a 964 carrera RS spec car did, out of a 997 six years ago!
The car was gutless below 4k rpm, and I mean barely able to drag its arse along, rock hard bumpy, stalled at a mini roundabout then flooded and took five minutes to start, and was a pig to drive five miles from my office in general traffic.
On reaching my destination, i wish I had just taken my bloody Berlingo van, as it had been a nightmare!
Driving back, I thought I would give it a chance, and carried on past the entrance to a little lane out to Ingatestone.
A few hundred yards in, I really had tears in my eyes, genuinely. The noise from 4 to 8k rpm was epic, with decent shove. The steering telepathic, and the handling sublime in a delecate and chalenging way, to really keep you on your toes.
All in all, it was without doubt the best and most memerable drive this year, and has opened my eyes to what genuine treasures the early cars are. Funny how as you get older you discover stuff that really moves you on an emotional level that you wouldnt have thought twice about when you were younger. Always had to be the turbo stuff.
2.0 litre 911? Cant wait to try a good 3.0 rsr rep on guilotine throttles and megaphones!

Sounds like a quality ride Lee, I reckon I know what you've asked Santa for! At least it would give me a chance to stay somewhere near you on a summer blast, and not be left in your wake with burn marks on my front bumper!
