Targa top refurb

Just looking for some advice - currently restoring my SC and my attention has turned to the targa roof. Looking pretty shagged at the moment, the vinyl's in pretty poor condition and also the locking system is very tired. I'm looking to have it all brought back to new. Now I'm certain that there's no-where locally that would do this job as I live offshore, meaning the roof will have to be packaged and shipped to the UK. Any recommendations?

If possible try to watch the wheeler dealers episode on the targa . I seem to recall it was fairly straightforward

The previous owner of my targa (964) had the roof refurb'ed at southbound - it was around £4k which is a scary amount!

WTF??!!!


I've had them fully re-trimmed (outside and inside) for £250. I've no idea what's involved if there's anything wrong with the alloy chassis though, but likewise I've never seen one with any issues.

4k for a targa roof refurb? Wet the bed that's expensive.

I was under the impression you can buy new non-OEM for around £1k?

From an OPC it'll cost you circa £8000

You can also get a fibreglass fixed replacement from the USA for about $500 - which will probably do a better job of sealing against wind & rain etc, the drawback being it doesn't fold up - but it'll still fit behind the front seats so unless you're taking rear seat passengers out regularly it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Now I'm really coming round to the idea of a fixed fibreglass jobby, but a bit stuck with what colour to paint it. I've decided on having he car re-sprayed in venetian blue, and am quite liking the idea of having a matching hard roof. The bit I'm stuck with is what colour to spray the roll bar - keep it black or colour code it so it matches the roof and the rest of the car. Here's an example of a fully colour coded targa top. Thoughts please!

New from an OPC it's about £11k plus vat - which is simply absurd.

They go for £250-3.000 on eBay, I did look into the fibreglass ones available in the US - however I don't use the car often enough to warrant use of the top - if it's not sunny then I'm not going out in it.

I used to have a targa, and for me it would have to remain black.
