A couple of months ago I test drove the New Cayenne Diesel (which I thought was fantastic). Speaking to the OPC they advised me the lead time was 6 months, which I wasn't to keen on, I have bought an ex demo from them previously and enquired about the Cayenne I had driven, only to be told, I would be able to buy it until March 2011, when they get a replacement.

Is the lead time for one of these actually 6 months? Are they holding back on production or just got too many orders? confused

Your thoughts would be appreciated...

When I ordered mine, there were 48 people before me on the list, all with deposits payed.

Never had much affection for the old Cayenne, but saw the 'new' one at the Geneva Show and was instantly impressed. Ordered one in March, but some options were delayed to Sept 2010, and will arrive very soon - still been a 9 month wait.

As I understand it, the big demand is for the Diesel (claimed 35 mpg) and the lead time is at least 6 months. Good news is - it should be top of the class; bad news is - all the desirable toys on the options list.

I drove one for the first time today as was really impressed. I thought it would feel more like the old V6 petrol but it was more like the V8.

I can see why it's finding favour with the voters. I still like the Panamera but it's quite a price hike over a Cayenne and the Cayenne is very practical. A base model oil fired Cayenne at £44k looks good value although to be fair I shouldn't imagine too many leave the showroom at under £50k with £55k being the norm.

Fastbox, I ordered a Cayenne Diesel a week ago and the anticipated delivery is April/May. So yes, 6 months is the norm.

I actually phoned a few dealers, including AFN Reading (which is owned by Porsche UK), and all said delivery around May.

The diesel is in HUGE demand.

Interestingly I opted for the Cayenne as I feel it looks so much fresher than the RR and the interior is a much more luxurious place to be. IMHO of course! What sort of discount did you manage as that's a min of £63K at list price?

5% discount . I felt the RR had the better interior! IMO.

There is a fair wait for a Q5 as well, which is basically the same thing.

The Audi dealer I was with today and the fact a work colleague waited ages for his. Then again I never really wait for a car to be built so I guess 3 months is normal leadtime and 5 months is a bit long.

Am I wrong?
I'm guessing Koln meant who told you the Q5 was basically the same as a Cayenne!

Yes. I was told that VW/Audi/Porsche co-developed a brand new platform (code named PL71) for the next generation Touareg/Q7/Cayenne, but the
Cayenne was substantially developed at Weissach.

I called in and took one for a test drive on Saturday. Fell in love with it. I have a 3.0 d X5, but this was in a different class.

Dealer told me delivery time of 12-14 weeks.

Once you start adding the toys it came in at c£55k, which is actually what the X5 cost new.

Ask the dealer to put that delivery in writing. I bet they won't. If they do then please let me know the dealer as I will use them smile

He did tell me that they had 7 (I think) out the back ready for delivery. They were waiting for 2011 to register them or something.

Is the lead-time just a UK thing?

OK, they don't sell the diesel there yet, but if you look at a typical Porsche dealership in the US, they have tons of new car inventory.
