With all this recent heavy rain and living in the country I think we need to buy a small suv and the Macan S seems to fit the bill, was going to buy a new 992T but too low when you have rivers running down the roads! You can still order a petrol which is also what we want. But are they fun, reliable and do they have week spots like so many new Porsche models. What’s the real world economy like of the v6 and day to day ownership as it will be our daily?
Or is there something better? More fun yes a GR Yaris springs to mind but will it cope with flooded roads of about a foot deep?
Are there any must have extras? Most like stay on standard wheels and air suspension and perhaps sunroof?

We’ve has 3 Macans, 2 GTS’ and one Petrol S. They are quick and handle really well for a 2 tonne SUV. Known issues are transfer box which is now covered by a 7 year warranty, leaking sunroof which is because the drain holes get blocked and later cars sometimes get flooded boots because the rear washer tube leaks. I’ve also heard reports of oil leaks from the front of she engine but not sure how common that is.

I’d say air suspension is worth the extra for the flexibility but not essential and I’d definitely go for 14 or 18 way seats, heated windscreen, steering wheel and rear seats if you use it a lot in winter and have kids and full feather lifts the interior.

Other than that choose the extras that are important to you.

Go for a drive in one you’ll wonder how they made it feel that good.

Oh, and sorry I’ve got no idea on mpg, it’s a Porsche wink

Had a New GTS Series 2 then a New S Series 3, basically the same engine. Didn’t really gel with either, had 1 with 21” and Air Suspension didn’t like the feel at all, floaty, and I had one with 20” and standard steel spring Suspension, way better feel. Had given up on Macan until I used a mates Gen 1 Turbo with Performance Pack over last Christmas. Wow what a revelation, GTS on Steroids or Macan Turbo S if they would have built one. Rumour is that was the plan but some issue with Ceramic Brakes at the same time. Very short production run, supposedly only 120 UK cars, but find one of those, best Macan ever built. I bought one and it’s a keeper. Seems to be a rule, 20” without Air Suspension or 21” with Air Suspension. 21” without Air Suspension seem to be a tough ride and would imagine a tougher resale proposition.

Something like this,

We've had a Base 2.0 and a Turbo ie both extremes! They were both great all-rounders, and the Base was better car than given credit for. I have driven an S and do wonder if that is the sweet spot. As for options, for me air suspension is a must-have with 21 inch wheels, without ride is way too harsh. Bose and 18 way seats are also must-have. Interior can be bit dark so coloured seat belts or some carbon helps. One thing I love is race-tex roof lining, got this on our new electric one. Pano roof does nothing for me, had it on several cars but never really used it much. All obviously personal opinion but they are great cars.

We've owned Porsches for nearly 40 years. Started with a Carrera 3.0 911 and worked our way up through to todays Porsche which is a Macan GTS. Now as grandparents we have to collect and delivery grandchildren so the Macan ticks lots of boxes. It is not a replacement for the 911 or Boxsters that we've owned but still has all the plus points that Porsche build into their products. Bug enough for us and I am 6ft 4 in tall so space is essential. Performs well and with a press of the red button it is pretty quick. When we specced the Macan it had to have panoramic roof, heated seats, heated steering wheel and ideally ceramic brakes. Disappointed that when we finally signed off for the build we were told we could not have ceramics. Luckily not a deal breaker. After owning 11 Porsches I can say that this Macan has all the attributes that keep us in the Porsche zone.

Spot the Macan GTS in Carmine Red.
