DIY on older 970 Panamera Diesel
Discussion
As per another thread on here, Panamera prices have finally fallen to something reasonable, and looks like you can get a decent early diesel under 15k now. For a daily these seem like a great prospect, ULEZ, cheapish tax, decent pace, 40+mpg. Yeah its not that special, but I have a weekend car for that.
I do DIY servicing on my cars and given the diesel is from an Audi, this should be straightforward. A few questions if there are any 970 nerds reading:
I do DIY servicing on my cars and given the diesel is from an Audi, this should be straightforward. A few questions if there are any 970 nerds reading:
- Does anyone know the engine codes used in the diesel?
- It looks like some time in 2014 the diesel got 300PS, was this directly with the 970.2 facelift?
- Does the PCM unit have bluetooth streaming as standard?
The 970 (mk1 Panamera) was released 2010 and built 'til 2016 model year; diesel production started in 2012 model year - rated at 250bhp at first then moved to 300bhp for the 2014 model year and beyond - 300bhp models are noticeably quicker.
Internal engine code is CRC; common rail diesel; two chain - on 970 the HP pump is chain driven in the vee at the back of the engine. The earliest Cayenne diesels had the belt driven pump at the front of the engine (MY09 onwards); 4 chain engine switching to the the two chain, chain driven pump engine design in MY11.
The 2010 PCM cannot be updated; 2011> can. 2010 cars you have to replace the PCM entirely to update maps (a few were caught out there!)
The AUX function can be switched on - you have to have a CD in the drive to toggle it on - most will already be done. Plenty of aftermarket options to retrofit Carplay / Android Auto functionality. BT streaming was possible from MY11 - the unit had to be from a certain HW/SW level.
