Good morning PHers,

I my 2019 model Cayenne S started suffering out of the blue from a strong pulling to the left.

Porsche have done a wheel alignment and swapped all alloys but to no avail.

The dealership is now offering to swap the entire steering rack for £5,000 as they are not allowed to touch the actual steering column. Add to this the £1,000 already spent and still no idea whether replacing the rack will work, and this is all getting out of hand.

Would anyone have an Indy garage in London / West London to recommend?

Sincerely,

John

Have they jacked the front off the ground and then started the car up to check if the rack is self-motoring, i. e. turning with no input? It's very rare but not unheard of.

Unfortunately they have but to no avail.

Anyone that could recommend a good Porsche Indy in London / West London?

I don't suppose you've changed the tyres recently? I had a similar issue on my 911 and they'd fitted the wrong spec tyres in a recent change.

Interesting timing - as I have also started to notice my 2019 Cayenne Turbo is starting to pull to the left..

I know most roads have camber - but i've had the car for a year and have never noticed this before.

I am almost having to hold the wheel to the right to keep it tracking straight and if i let go of the wheel - it veers off straight to the left!!

Have checked the tyres and pressures are all ok, I haven't whacked a pothole and there are no vibrations from the wheels either..

Also the electric steering column switch is no longer working - so have booked it in to Porsche (its under warranty) to investigate.

Will be interesting to see what they suggest is causing the pull to the left.....

Cheers
Steve

May I ask what steering switch you are referring to?

the electric steering column switch...

to adjust the height etc of the steering wheel - mines packed up. moving the toggle (switch) does nothing...

Also- had the tracking adjusted this morning - seems it was out of spec. however even with that adjustment done, the car still behaves the same - so goes to Porsche next month...

Nope, Porsche High Wycombe swapped all 4 wheels from a similar vehicle and the problem remained

Unfortunately no, I actually booked and am paying for the 111 points test to get this extended warranty on this very visit but this steering wheel issue is failing that test so no warranty either!

Quick update -

My car has been in Porsche since Tuesday.

I had a technician road test the car with me, who confirmed that yes this is not normal behaviour and was quite unsafe!

Porsche have so far replaced the steering column and performed a 4 wheel re-alignment (required after changing the column) - car still behaves the same..

The investigation continues...

Maybe totally unrelated but there is a steering ECM, part number 955.618.047.04

I had a power steering problem on my 2007 S whereby the steering would go very heavy.

My indy suggested changing out the ECM as it has been known to be related to a variety of problems.

Part cost less from Porsche than Design911, but I can't link to it other than on Design911's site:

https://www.design911.co.uk/parts/95561804704/?sou...

Was an easy fit apparantly and totally cured my problem.

Steve, did this get resolved? I've just dropped mine of at Reading this morning with the same pull to the left..... Ive had the geo done/checked so its not that, the tyres or the wheels...
Any insights from you and others much appreciated!
Thanks, Philip

My new (to me) 2019 Turbo does EXACTLY the same.

Booked into Porsche West London on 22/10 for them to take a look.

Hi yes,

It was fixed by replacing the front tyres!

I was extremely doubtful this was the cause - as visually the tyres looked fine.
The dealer swapped them from side to side and apparently the car started to pull in the opposite direction.

So I reluctantly replaced the front tyres at my local tyre centre that I have always used - and presto - car stopped pulling and has been fine ever since...

I must also state - that I think the N0 Pzeros are an awful tyre - i've never run Pirellis in the past - always using a Michelin SS or PS4 tyre and they are night and day better than the Pzero.. However there is no N0 fitment available from Michelin in the 21.

Hope you get your issue sorted,

Cheers

That's great news and I hope it's the same for mine.

I only picked up the car on 31st July and it's always done it, so hopefully if it is the same issue they will replace them under their Approved Used policy.

Do you mind telling me which dealership sorted it and if it would be OK to share your experience and solution with West London.

Thanks

The guy who I dealt with was:

Dillon Bennett
Service Advisor

Porsche Centre Cambridge
Tel: 01223 872 872

Note: tyres are not covered by the Porsche approved warranty. Thats why I was very reluctant to pay myself to replace them as I couldn't understand why they would be the cause of this issue. The car pulled so violently to the left, that I was sure if the tyres were the cause they would be scrubbed heavily on the shoulders or worn in some strange way - however visually they looked absolutely fine...

Good luck
Steve

Thanks Steve

If my car has the same problem, then I would have expected Porsche to have picked this up as part of the 111 point check.

it could get interesting.
