Hi all,

Quick one; my Macan is juddering when accelerating hard.

When you accelerate gently, nothing is detectable, but when you put your foot down, as the revs climb, the car starts vibrating. It doesn’t seem to affect the power output, but it obviously shouldn’t be happening.

As said, normal load, nothing - slightly higher load, gentle (probably wouldn’t get your attention if you weren’t looking for it).

So, what do we think?

My first thought is to change the PDK oil before delving into the realms of a new transfer case. I’m not sure the symptoms match what I’ve read (not a great deal) on transfer case failure, but it’s a known point on these. I could well be wrong, but the juddering seems a bit too ‘uniform’ for it to be transfer..

It’s a 2015 S, not under warranty, with about 38k on the clock.

First thought would be the center driveshaft (propshaft) bearing support. Known problem.
There's even an aftermarket fix it's so common.

(Yes I know it's showing a Cayenne, but the Macau uses the same bearing support)

Did your OPC look at your gearbox? We had a (part) replacement on our Macan Turbo after around 25k as it shuddered when accelerating. OPC said it appears to be a well known problem

Not yet. I was planning on avoiding the OPC network, I’ll hopefully have it in next week..
Was that well-known problem the transfer case by any chance? It’s certainly fairly common.

NMNeil, thank you. Certainly sounds plausible, given the shudder frequency.

Pretty amazing that you’ve got 7 years in without having to replace the transfer box. I’d get it checked by an OPC. No cost replacement.

You were close!

Front right axle has a little free play in it. In turn, it’s also done a bit of damage to the part of the diff it fixes on to.
