Cayenne S 957 - PDCC and Air Suspension opinions
Discussion
Following a useful steer on the car buying thread I'm looking at 2007-2008 Cayenne S models. I like V8s, and my budget doesn't stretch to a Turbo or GTS that doesn't have interstellar mileage or a history that sets alarm bells off in my head. So a 4.8 S appears to be the best point to aim.
Most of the cars I'm seeing on the usual sites have air suspension, and some of them have PDCC, which I understand is a hydraulic system to stiffen up the rear anti-roll bars and apply some active rear steer (not certain on that second point, that may be PDCC on other models). However, I've seen a few without the air suspension.
Living in the sticks I like the idea of having something that improves the stability on the sweeping high-speed corners and slower blind right-angles we have round here. Does PDCC make much of a difference in drivability?
How well do the non-air Cayennes drive? I appreciate that they're not going to have the flexibility of the air suspension in terms of adjustable firmness and height, but do the steel springs lead to an overly-wallowy or overly-harsh experience?

I have a 2008 S V8 since new. Stripper spec, no air suspension, no sunroof, no extra leather, no nav etc. Just a great V8.
Have done 290,000km with it including maybe 60,000km towing other cars on trailers often on 8,000km runs.
Drives very well, corners just fine. Had a few expensive fixes but it has never let me down.

Meaning what? Long since lost all ring pressure, leaking fluids, but still good for a wild thrash down the back road?Have done 290,000km with it including maybe 60,000km towing other cars on trailers often on 8,000km runs.

I notice you are in Canada, am I right in assuming the Cayenne is used in all seasons and on salted roads? Have you had any problems with corrosion?

Not at all..just did an 8000km run in it cruising much of the way at 85-90 MPH. Drives really well. No leaks. New brakes, power steering, cam lifters rest all original.RDMcG said:
