I'm thinking of taking the plunge with a Panamera as a daily.

Budget is, like the title says, £25k. For that money, I can get a 250bhp diesel, or V6 or V8 petrol. My gut says 'diesel' simply for the mpg but are the petrols more reliable or less so? Is it worth paying the premium for a 4 / 4s? I would have thought other running costs (consumables etc) will all be about the same?

Any comments / experience of owning, gratefully received.

From what I know the reliability between all the powertrains is much of a muchness, so choose the one that suits your driving the best.

Personally, I would have a petrol 4 model, as I like to drive to the Alps.

I bought an early turbo feb last year, although I don’t daily it . Suspension is very sensitive to worn bushes / tracking . I’d buy on condition .
Really depends on appetite for fuel. When I can find it, I use super in mine, last week that cost £160 from empty, which is just crazy. I’ve not reset the trip so my average is 14mpg, it is tuned so this won’t help ! However once I had all coils and plugs changed , my mpg has become way better, even saw almost 30 on a long drive . They are very spec sensitive, early didn’t have dab as standard which is crap, try and get Bose or if you are very lucky the burmester system is meant to be incredible, wish mine had it. Interior is beautiful, mine is almost white leather , carbon trim, makes a huge difference over the majority of black & silver interiors. Id look at more than one though until you decide what you like. I’d offer to give you a look at mine, but I’m north of Edinburgh .

For active forum, rennlist is by far the busiest. Porsche club was like the Marie Celeste ..

I have a Turbo S. Generally they seem to be pretty reliable.

There are a lot of iffy specs out there so be careful & patient, you will get what you want.

I wanted a Turbo S, in certain colours, certain wheels, certain interior. Found one even though there are very few turbo Ss. Mine is Agate grey, black interior with full carbon pack, Burmester sound system, rear video, 8yrs old & 14k miles. It’s immaculate.

Even the Turbo S will give fair consumption on a long run. Max out the power & go for a 4. The difference in fuel cost will not be significant,

The 3.0d is a really tempting daily driver that gives a bit of performance and a smart interior.

I’ve been watching prices the last few years when choosing daily drivers and they have really held strong values. They were starting at around 20k 3-4 years ago for the 100k milers and are still around that now.

Whereas the Merc Cls, Audi A7, bmw 635d /640d motors are depreciated a fair bit.

I’ve driven the 3.6 and it sounds nice and drives well, but will be looking for a 3.0d next year
