All 968 Owners, Please check your cars
Discussion
Hi All
Just had to replace my Alternator Harness, it was falling apart from old age, the whole thing had bio-degraded
the big issue is the big wire is connected to the battery and the red/blue is the starter, they breakdown and touch and if in gear, your car is off down the drive without you, or burns the starter out, or worst case your car bursts into flames
they are NLA from porsche so I had to make one...
affects all 968's, the harness was made by Leoni in the UK, and fitted to all cars, cab's coupe's sports and CS,
Please check yours if its crunchy is finished
A picture from an owner in the USA, It let itself out the garage

I discovered thix exact problem a few months ago and made a YouTube video to warn others and to demonstrate it happening. It's quite serious when it happens because the only way to stop it is to disconnect the battery, which gets very hot.
I had my five year old son in the car at the time with the speed I reacted to get him out, open the hatch and get a 13mm spanner to disconnect the negative terminal I should work in an F1 pit crew.
So, yeah, everyone with a 944/ 968 and possibly 928 just have a feel of your cables. If they feel like dry un cooked pasta, change them. As this is an easy thing to check and fix, but should it happen to you it could end in disaster.
