Hi All,

I hope someone can help - I went out to my wife's car this morning and found a puddle on the driver side rubber floor mat.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of where to look for the ingression? As I drove the car a few drops of water fell on my right foot, but I couldn't feel any dampness when I got home and placed my hand under the lower dash.

Lifted the bonnet and all is clean with no leaves blocking any holes.

We have had the car (a 2017 mode Turbo PP) for 6 months and this is the first time this has happened.

Any thoughts suggestions or similar experiences would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance all.

We had this problem in our cayenne, water an inch deep in both foot wells , it most likely is blocked drainage ducts common problem apparently, we got ours sorted at a Porsche specialist as we are well out of warranty, it could be worth checking the panoramic roof drain ducts if you have one .

If you bought from a centre and have Warranty get it into an OPC, the sales check will have included a drain inspection - they are also checked at Service as part of the 2yrly Status Report. Most likely culprit is the Panoramic roof (if fitted!)

Living in the sticks (leaves etc) I always get drains blown out if car goes in for anything. Had a damp wiring loom in an earlier car which caused problems.

Has it been snowing there?

I don’t live in the UK so not sure what sort of weather you’re having, but in Sweden during the winter there is always a puddle on the floor mats from the snow that sticks to your shoes.

As per Neil’s comments, this is a common issue in Cayennes as well as Macans. There are additional drains located behind the arch liners which can get blocked with crud

There are quite a few videos on YouTube about the blocked drains and how to clear them. I did mine on the first day of getting my car as there was a bit of sloshing coming from the nearside sill and managed to drain a fair amount onto the drive. Some chap has a video of clearing them using one of those annoying car flags...

Couple of threads on the MacanForums about this issue and more specifics about how you can fix but I wouldn’t suggest a specific trip to the OPC for this one, I sorted mine in about 20 mins on my drive.

Hi Pope, thanks for your reply.

I had the car in for its 4th year service in early Jan as the warranty ran out on the 15th Jan. I didn't renew the warranty as tbh I am not sure how long we will keep the car. 🤦‍♂️

I will call the OPC but my guess is that they will say they checked at the service and all was fine so we will now have to stump up the bill for a repair.

And yes it has a panoramic roof and that seems to be the issue.

Thank you all for your replies, and if you can send me any links to repairing it myself I will happily give it a go.

Drivers side headlining is damp and water is coming out from the bottom of the A-pillar into the car AND when I our water into the sunroof drain hole also through the drain hole under the car. Passenger side - when I pour water into the drain hole in the sunroof, water is coming out the bottom of the A-pillar into the car and out of the drain hole as well.

As the water that is coming out of the drain holes underneath the car is significant, I guess there is some disconnect of the drain tube or it is split? Is this possible or common?

Drain holes are clear when you open the sunroof and have no dirt or gunk in the channels. I put a thin plastic tube down the drain holes but I could only get this to go as far as the bottom of the A-pillar.

Any videos or links so I can try the next stage would be welcomed.

Worth also checking the HVAC drain next to the firewall under the dash - that’s a 10 minute job and a bit more comfy than being under the car.

This is the link to the HVAC drain that I used to find and clear mine. https://youtu.be/Ea3rk8iqa_c

Here are a couple of vids to drain clearing.

Macan- https://youtu.be/a2gLACCuQ_s

Cayenne (might be very similar approach) - https://youtu.be/0WSgpniOgYA

Useful England flag operation - https://youtu.be/wnwUJQxkpfU

Genuinely easy enough to perform and saves a three figure spend for the sake of a screwdriver and a dirty hand.

Good luck!

Get it booked in and inspected; press the fact the Warranty only ran out 2wks ago and look for a Goodwill contribution - it's not an isolated case. If it's coming through the roof cassette it was always like it.

Mine is in for that at my OPC as we speak, despite having had the sunroof drainage channels cleared 12 months ago. It’s a common problem.

I cannot understand your Porsche have such a blind spot with regards to their drainage. I had problems with this on my 997s. How could they not come up with a better design? Ford's etc don't suffer from this!

Not too sure they don't (other manufacturers I mean).

Our swings in weather are what make the UK a particular focal point for R&D in weather sealing/drainage. We have had a shift in weather in recent times; long dry spells create dust and fine debris; it tends to clag when it gets wet; that, combined with our fine drizzle helps to create a fine slow-moving sludge - if we had hard rain all the time the drains would likely stay clearer for longer.

All I would say is when it's offered - a drain check and clear - I would accept it and have it done, its not worth the drama if they do back up (and generates goodwill in the process).

Thanks Pope - It will be a call first thing in the morning.

Looking at Macans currently, are we saying just be safe and avoid the panoramic roof as it’s a common issue?

No. The pan roof is a great addition, it adds much needed light in an otherwise quite dark interior. Fantastic to have the roof open in good weather. I’ve had no drain issues, but they seem quite simple to deal with. If I was speccing mine again I’d definitely include the pan roof.

Had similar on a Volvo. It was the drain tube that ran behind A pillar. Easy fix if you have trim tools to remove the trim on the pillar. Replacement part was pennies. Took hours to dry out the carpet though. Of course, it could be totally different problem on the Macan. Good luck with it.

The Cayennes seem to be well known for blocked sunroof drains and I had to have them cleared in mine recently. When I dropped it off at the specialist one of the technicians was doing the same job on his Mum's BMW X5 that day.

Pope's description is very useful for understanding why it seems to be a common issue in the UK. smile
