New Macan S - negotiating with dealer

Hello all

I test drove a new Macan last weekend and really like the car. I ran through the configurator with the dealer and have chosen my ideal spec which includes about £10k of options so total price around £60k.

I know that Porsche say that they do not do discounts - and I have not brought this up with the dealer yet. However, is it even worth asking? This would be for a new factory order and they have quoted delivery in April/May.

Or would I have better luck in negotiating on finance/part ex value or for something else (eg additional Porsche experience day so that both my wife and I can benefit)?

If I am unlikely to get anything, then so be it - but thought I would ask you guys as this would be my first new Porsche

Always worth an ask. Worst they can do is say no.

My Dad ordered a 2.0 Macan last month was told a flat no when we discussed discounts.

I’d ordered a new Boxster (2014) and 718 (2016) from the same OPC and managed circa £1700 discount on both occasions, but had heard other buyers couldn’t get any discount on a 718. My sales bloke mentioned some months later he’d got in a bit of bother over the discount on my 718!

If you can’t get a discount off the list price definitely try on the ‘dealer extras’ (Gap, alloy/tyre cover etc). Profit margin is huge and OPCs usually willing to discount them as they are targeted heavily to sell ‘em.

As said, worth asking but experience (mine and others) suggests they're v unlikely to knock anything off the list price. You're more likely to have some success with peripherals like all-weather mats and your extra experience day.

Pretty sure I got approx 8% off my Cayenne which was brand new.

My advice - get talking directly to the sales manager as quickly as possible, it’s a waste of time trying to negotiate with a sales person who scurries off to get an answer for every request.

Too easy for the answer to be no......

Thanks all for the replies - will see how I get on but not really expecting any discount so anything extra would be a bonus.

Just need to decide if I am going to order - I still have this niggling feeling that I would be compromising with the Macan as the ideal (for me) would be a cheaper 4x4 and a 911. But my wife uses the car most and likes the raised seating position of an SUV - which leaves me with my old 987 Boxster rather than a nice 911whilst she gets a new Macan!

Did you get one? My approach would be that i'm leaning towards a Velar as its better looking, chheaper (*is it?!) and can carry more bales . If they are facing NO sale at all they may be inclined to cut a little slack.. No salesman likes losing to the opposition!

You may get a better discount on a Velar but residual values are dire (having bought a few in the trade). if you want a Velar buy used and you'll get value, but it'll continue to drop. The Macan S has been my historical sure-bet on residuals (even the Diesel) and although you might not get a deal now you'll be £££ better off after 3-years compared to pretty much everything else.

I haven’t taken the plunge yet. Since there are no discounts of any note, I don’t feel pressured to make a decision quickly.

I am also weighing up how badly I want one - it is a great car but not my “dream” car and given I only do 7k a year, it is very hard to justify spending £60k on something I do not love.

I have got 7 months before my Discovery 4 deal ends, so I may just bide my time and see how I feel in a few weeks.

The other alternative is a cheaper family car like a Golf R and then a nice 981S or a 997.2, which I may be happier with overall.

First world problems eh??

This is the direction I would go in I think, SUV's don't really ever offer much of a fun drive and you always feel their size/weight for me.

Late model Discovery 4 + 997/981? For me that's a very classy garage and a great value proposition.

For the OP’s £60k I’d be looking at a used Macan GTS....as a daily driver it’s (in my opinion) night and day a much,much better drive than anything LR has ever made.

If I had the option of keeping the Discovery 4 and also getting a 997.2 or 981S, then that would be ideal. But that is a lot of money tied up in depreciating assets! I have got a 987.1 at the moment as the fun car, but a newer Porsche would be lovely.

Discovery 5 - not for me. It is ludicrously expensive and doesn't really feel like a Land Rover in my opinion. Plus the amount of electrical equipment to potentially (inevitably?!?!?) go wrong is not particularly appealing. In truth, my D4 is superb and - touch wood - I think I have been lucky to get one of the good ones. It has had a very few minor niggles but has otherwise been perfect - although since it is now out of warranty everything will probably start going wrong!

I think I need to keep doing some man math's to justify keeping the D4 and spending the money on the second car.....

Biased, but I did drive them all - a higher end Macan on air and with PASM is a very nimble proposition that never feels like the short straw practical DD.
