Bought a 14 plate Panamera for the wife as a daily a few months ago to replace a Cayenne and thought it might be useful to put some thoughts down....
Wanted a car with a light (cream) interior and under £30K, with sensible miles, most cars have a black interior .eventually found one at a Porsche BCA auction in Surrey, 49K miles, Platinum edition....seems a nicely specced car as standard, only options I can see are 4 zone air conditioing which is of benefit to rear passengers giving them all sorts of buttons to mess with.
Car is a 250 BHP 3.0 Diesel with an 8 speed automatic gearbox.....my first impressions were the engine wasnt as quiet as the Cayennes (09 3.0 diesel), the rear legroom/space is huge and generally the cabin is a nice place to be.....first annoyance is the stop start, which you can turn off at the push of a button, just need to remember to do it! Interior finish is first class, does feel like a premium product and classier than the Cayenne.
Ecomomy...unbelievable for such a big heavy car....motorway driving 47 mpg is seen regulary, mixed driving just over 40, road tax £230 p/a, (Cayenne £550 IIRC).
8 speed gearbox very smooth, outstanding.
Performance....With the sport button pressed, responsive and quick enough for a daily, in normal mode a tad sluggish pulling out from junctions, the later 300 bhp model is likely to see to that. Very relaxed on the motorway, under 2000 revs at around 80 mph.
Ride: Jiggly on uneaven surfaces & not a patch on the Cayennes air suspension....I would seek out a car with the air suspension to try if I was going to replace and see how much better that is...on smooth roads no issues
Equipment: Seems to have most stuff, basic electric seat movement, nav, reversing camera, heated seats, 20" alloys, decent standard stereo, bluetooth that works well, keyless entry etc etc...would have liked a sunroof.
Size...this is a big car, its long and its wide, think 4 x 4 size and your about there, thats how it feels....the boot is big enough but shallowish...tons of space for all occupants, however this is a strict 4 seater with a big centre tunnel, I believe a 5 seater is an option on the new ones.
To sum up, I am overall impressed, baring the ride, good daily, and decent value at 4/5 years old, cant comment on servicing costs or reliability as yet as I havent had it long enough (I had to add 1/2 litre of oil the other day, 12000 miles after it was serviced).
