hello all

I've been bouncing around car choices for the last few weeks, to replace my c63 and 530d to get a 'one car does all' or words to that effect.

I've thought of everything, or so I thought, but forgot about Panameras. The Gen2's are a fantastic place to be by the looks of it. I'm tempted by a 4s, the combo of a 420bhp V8 with 630 lb ft of torque and atleast 30/35mpg sounds very tempting indeed. The interior is probably one of my faves of most modern cars.

Firstly... where are they all?! there's only 10 for sale within the Porsche network for the whole of the UK. I spoke to my local OPC lastnight with my concerns on buying a Panamera diesel considering they have dropped this engine after only 2 years, but he reassured me that diesel Porsches are returning and thus the demand should be there, so I shouldn't take a massive thump at resale time.

There just doesn't seem to be many about for sale, So finding a car with the full bells and whistles is difficult. Has anyone here any experience with one, and how do you find it as a daily driver?

There's a cracking Saphire Blue car I've found in Newcastle Porsche, which looking at the spec, is the exact car Pistonheads used to review it on release. http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/detail...
Certainly boxes where ticked at build time, (heated/vented and massage seats front and rear for crying out loud!) but its a pitty it doesn't have the full sport design pack for extra exterior kudos. Other than that its quite hard to knock the car but given this was probably one of Porsche's press cars, would you buy one knowing its been ragged by every tom dick and harry?

I Appreciate your input.

I wouldn't worry, honestly. Porsches can take - in fact seem to benefit from - a good thrashing.

Come sale time, you can buy a few back-copies and get a better price.

Great car, which is why everyone's holding on to them?

The answer to the where are they all question is quite simply that they were on sale for less than a year. Launched Q4 2016 and taken off sale summer of last year.

The good news is that it's a sodding fantastic car, I had my OPC's demo for a day and was staggered by what a capable car it was. Supremely comfortable but also capable of pressing on in a way a car of it's size shouldn't be able to. I ahvea Cayenne V8 S Diesel which has a slightly older and less powerful version of the V8 Diesel....it's a fantastic engine.

Biggest issue with it as a daily driver is the sheer bloody size of it...negotiating multi story car parks etc not easy.

I'd really like a Panamera but Mrs Cheib likes the raised driving position of our Cayenne. I think if you run it for a while residuals will be fine...if you sold it in six to twelves months I reckon it could be expensive. After they were withdrawn OPC's seemed to struggle to sell the cars they had in stock.

Went to my local OPC Saturday (Cardiff) to crunch some numbers, and see if they'll bring the car down from New Castle for me.

I test drove a 2018 4S Petrol (2.9 v6 tt) just to get a feel of the car, play with the tech etc. Honestly - sublime. What a fantastic overall package and being honest its quite difficult to knock the car in anyway to be honest. They didn't have a v8 diesel for me to try there but I had no issues with leaving a deposit and hopefully not being disappointed when it arrived from New Castle.

However.. the deal was to be done, but their part ex on my C63 was far too low. They wouldn't budge a penny on the price of the Panamera ( I assume normal procedure with Porsche?) but couldn't give me more for mine either. So yesterday I put it on Auto Trader, with the assumption I'd call back this morning to leave a deposit, so they could bring the car down, and I'd see if I can sell mine within say a fortnight (if not i'd just take their offer on my car instead!).

But. It sold yesterday! What are the chances. New castle had it for 8 weeks with little interest.. Cardiff enquired about it for me on Saturday to bring it down to me, and then Yesterday someone left a deposit on it while it was still in New Castle. Wasn't meant to be - but I have decided the 4.0 V8 Diesel is the one to go for so I need to keep an eye out now as they seem to be few and far between.

Fabulous car, after a week in one as a courtesy car I must say I did miss it, despite returning to a 911 GTS.. One draw back is the size, it is very wide and long..... but otherwise I found it to be a true stand out car.

During a chat with the salesman he did say the engine is not the same as that in the Cayenne. The engine is unique to the Panamera. Something of a surprise, but perhaps a by-product of the recent upheaval and cancelled appearances in other cars in the VAG group.

It's funny, Panameras are about 50mm narrower than Cayennes, but everyone seems to think they're bigger.

It's slightly more powerful than the one on the Cayenne...which I suppose you'd expect given it was introduced a couple of years after it was in the Cayenne. The thump in the back acceleration it delivers is quite staggering in a car as big as the Panny. Christ knows what the Turbo is like.

certainly a big car but not ridiculous, and the more astonishing thing is how it handled and drove for such an elephant at 2.2 tonnes.

The engine I believe is the same unit used in the Audi SQ7, but with slightly less power and torque. Id imagine the v8 diesel suits the car absolutely perfectly - I thought the 2.9v6 tt would be underpowered and sound poor, but I was wrong on both! More choice out there if I went with a 4s Petrol, but, demand must be high as their still asking for £90k plus.

With the mileage I do id defo reap the benefits of Diesel, not quite buying into all the diesel nonsense at the moment either so I wouldn't dismiss it on all the scaremongering. Of course that could change two years into ownership but then it is what it is.. on long journeys it'll still be a frugal option especially when considered as a total package in terms of performance and luxury.

Want to get my hands on one soon, gutted I missed out on the Newcastle car now.

It's Gen 1, turbo S so 550bhp, agate grey. Like new with only 12k on the clock there's a piccie on this thread

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I got it a month ago but came back to work 3 weeks ago so only driven it a bit. Utterly brilliant cars, great place to sit, feels small & light on the road.

Just wondering! Panamera and RRS similar in what they do so i thought perhaps you'd rejected it.

Hope this one is a good one then. Mine has been flawless so far so they can't all be like that, must just be that car...

car picked up last week, just started a thread here:

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

as for the range rover so far so good - it actually went back two weeks ago (sigh) as the bootlid was mis aligned and squeaked tremendously when going down and also took the paint off the rear of the car. apparently very common but they sorted it with no issues. touch wood that's the last!
