Has anyone tried a different head unit in a 2006 ish 955 cayenne please

My PCM is switching off occasionally when hot and I am guessing this is the start of bigger problems

I see there are head units available from 3rd party sellers to swap this out for circa £500 upwards for a more modern unit

The factory unit is fairly useless and outdated anyway (no support for phones and crap sat nav plus analogue TV)

any advice would be gratefully received - thanks

I changed my one for a Dynavin unit which has been excellent , quite straight forward plug into standard wiring loom and once installed look like factory fitment.

Does your car have the Bose system?

I'd appreciate some pictures if possible

Yes it does have Bose , I had to add the MOST adapter which was quite straight forward , I dont have any photos but there are some on the Dynavin website, it really does look like factory fitment .

I am interested in doing the same thing. Was it a DIY job or did you have an ICE shop do it?

Thanks

Did it myself in about an hour ( I'm hopeless with electrics), really is just plug in and you also need to add fibre optic loops to the phone module and sat nav but again you just pull the plug out and plug the loop in. The loops can be bought from Audi for a few pounds , I've got the part number somewhere . The only thing that didn't seem to work was the tyre pressure monitoring however I didn't spend much trying to get it working . Overall it is a massive improvement and also the cheapest option if your PCM fails .

Depending where you live, this place might be of interest, they'll fit for £30 in their workshops

I've had a quote from them to supply and fit the N6, MOST and the add-on parking camera.

Seem like a friendly outfit.

I went down this same route, the installed said it wont last a year

For the same money you can have a premium brand (plus the most connector at circa £200)

I guess you pays your money and takes your chance

I wanted apple car play

In the end I went for the Kenwood ddx8016dabs

Seems to work well, I needed the most connector as well and I have added a new rear camera rather than spend out too much trying to make the factory fitted unit work. Apple car play works well and the DAB radio and the phone sync are the only other two 'musts' for me

I had a local installer fit the unit at my house in the sunshine yesterday. its a straightforward job to put the old factory unity back in if that's ever needed

Any pics - does it look reasonably OEM once fitted?

So, no I didn't go for sat nav as the unit supports Apple Car Play so I will use navigation via that route

Some steering wheel controls work

so volume and the up and down arrows

Mute, call open and call close buttons don't work

last post for now on the Kenwood unit - please PM for pictures of head unit and if you want details of my installer - not sure how to post here

Do you have a rear facing camera factory fitted by Porsche - I did, we couldn't get that to work but have fitted a discreet Kenwood unit next to the number plate

It works very well and has a more modern feel to the picture with gridlines

All in all, sounds like a bit of a mixed bag then?

I fitted the Dynavin & most box to my 06 turbo s, looked nice but didn't work, no sound, tried 2 replacements, still the same, wiring was shocking quality, car audio dealer I bought it from ditched dynavin after he refunded me, junk,

Fitted an alpine and a most box, works perfectly.

Quick update - very happy with my Kenwood ddx8016dabs

apple car play is great as well - just like a new car, but better cause its now an old car with a new hifi

I was thinking of changing my car because the old fashioned PCM was dragging the car down - I am glad I didn't. Just happy with my 586BHP sleeper
