There has been speculation here and on PCGB forum regarding how full the tank is when Porsche deliver the car.

My experience:

At 4500 miles the warning came on, only 1500 miles left of adblue. Took it OPC, who put in 15 litres to fill tank. As 2000 of those miles had been towing a heavy caravan I assumed that was the reason for excessive usage. That equates to 300 miles per litre

However, I have now done a further 5600 miles of which 500 with caravan in tow and still no warning light. I decided to top up the tank as Mrs Nutsy is using the car for the next couple of months and I will be unable to fill it.

It took 10.9 litres to brim full. That is 513.76 miles per litre.

Either the caravan uses adblue siphoned off from the tank, or Porsche didn't fill it at the factory.

I'm using a brand new Cayenne S diesel and noticed AB. What is AB and what happens if you run the car without it? Seems an almighty pain. Fabulous car by the way. Very impressed with it - can see why they sell so many.

Ad Blue is an additive to help the emissions of Euro 6 compliant diesel engines. The car won't run if it runs out.........

This. The adblue is contained in a tank under the boot floor. It is a right pain filling it, but as said above, once it runs out the car will not start. You say you have a new v8 - did the OPC not tell you about it? My OPC will fill it without charging labour (kind of them) but charge top whack for the adblue to make up for it, plus it's a 50 mile round trip and an hour's wait.

Bought my own supply direct from Shell Central so as not to give Porsche a chance of invalidating the warranty by using a cheaper brand, despite the fact that all comply with the relevant ISO standard.

Make sure you wear industrial standard rubber gloves when you fill up, as you will inevitably spill some and it is highly corrosive. Tank holds circa 20 litres. Look in your handbook.

Ah thanks for the info.

My Porsche centre has lent me a Cayenne S diesel for a few weeks. I hadn't even realised its a V8. This adblue additive would be a deal breaker for me however good the car is. Just want to stick fuel in a car and drive it. Wonderful car nonetheless.

How could you not know what engine you are sat behind. Might as well drive a Prius.

I wonder how long it will be before a "re-map" comes along to delete the Adblue element.

In a similar vein many BMW drivers don't know their cars are RWD.

Adblue

banghead

Got it on the Vito. The range is now 330 miles thanks to the smaller fuel tank, and refilling is down on hands and knees job as the filler is at ground level below the fuel filler. And you get covered in piss.

You get a message on the dash of tbe Vito saying the car will stop working in so many miles if you don't refill.

Yes I do. Important to know what performance you have for the many different scenarios that can arise when driving in this mad world.

Same on the Cayenne. You get a countdown from 1500 miles.

Why???

It cleans the exhaust massively, it costs 25p per litre and it lasts AGES.

If I could magic AdBlue onto my old diesel work car then I would, in a flash.

I think you'll find it costs considerably mor than 25p per litre. Try 69p at a garage pump - if you can find one, and £1.30 ish if you buy branded Shell or similar in a refill dispenser.

Using 50 litres a week, I suspect that I know more about its price than you.

You can pay £1:80 a litre in a 10l container on a forecourt if you wish, or £8:00 for a one litre bottle, but this does not make it 'the price'.

Depends how much you buy at a time. Haulage companies and buses use tons of it.
