Cayenne 957 - GTS or Turbo?
Discussion
I'm thinking of changing the family barge from an E60 M5 to a 2007-09 Cayenne.
There seems to be a decent choice of GTS and Turbos around the £20k mark, but I'm undecided as to which one to go for. The GTS looks seriously cool especially in Carmine Red and makes a great noise. The Turbo is quicker and comes with more equipment as standard.
Everywhere I've read says to get the Air suspension, but does it go wrong frequently? I imagine they won't be cheap to fix...

Some points to consider - any Cayenne, even to a degree the Turbo, will feel glacial compared to an E60 M5. They are a great drive, make the right noise etc, but they are not that quick. The GTS is actually slower than the E53 X5 4.8iS! As for air - yes, it is very nice and a must. It is not a complicated system in reality - the sensors are not that pricey (&75) and easy to swap. The compressors are common with BMW, LR and VW, thus rebuild kits cost £25, and lastly, there is a very well developed aftermarket offering by Arnett for the air bags, which is widely available and at £200 will not break the bank...There seems to be a decent choice of GTS and Turbos around the £20k mark, but I'm undecided as to which one to go for. HTH,

ex-E61 M5 owner, Cayenne Turbo occasional co-pilot, X5 4.8iS with air current station car
I've just moved (well 18 months ago) from a Cayenne 4.5S to an E63 M6 but I only sold the KN a few months ago because i wanted to keep it too. The M is phenomenally quick when it picks its skirts up and of course much quicker but it's upto illegal speeds so quickly it's pretty much impossible using much of it's capability in the south east UK. As an alround everyday car the Cayenne is unbeatable and the 4.5 was still quick enough to make swift progress on an A road so you can enjoy more of it more of the time.
I had air suspension and during my 6 years (mileage 60,000 to 112,000) never had a problem but the compressor had to be replaced by the previous owner at a cost of £900 I believe from Porsche dealer.
I will have another, almost certainly a turbo next time, brilliant, very practical, special and fun, hope you enjoy it when you find one. I believe all turbos had air but an option on the GTS
