I will be replacing my M5 in March. Originally I was looking at the Evora 400 and a 991, however with twins on the way things have changed. Top of my list currently is a 5.0 supercharged range rover sport, but the only other thing I am considering is a cayenne. With a budget of around £65k, this seems about right to get me into a 13 turbo s (550bhp) or a 14 turbo (520bhp), with the 14 being the updated version with improved interior. What do you think is the better choice. It is worth noting that I will probably replace my wife's car ina couple of years with something like a cayman S.

I'd probably go for the later car as I think it's a better looking car....BUT Cayenne's are very spec sensitive and even some Turbo's come with a pretty rubbish spec.

Panoramic Roof (almost impossible to sell if you don't have it)
Roof Bars (can't be added and will be difficult to sell if you don't have them)
18 way adaptive seats (might be standard)
Sport Design Kit (coloured bumpers and wheel arches)
Bose
Privacy Glass
21" wheels (probably a must on a Turbo)
Park Assist

Are all must have's for most people. For me there are a lot more!

I am sure given the new sticker price!

I asked the Head of Sales at the OPC I frequent about Cayenne Turbo's recently as I have got a new one on order and thought about a used turbo but there are very few about. He said they don't sell many "very much a niche car" which seems odd given how many RR SVR's are around and how popular they are.

What improved interior?

Only difference is the 918 style steering wheel which you can retrofit to the 13 and option for bigger rear screens and better connectivity if you have the exclusive rear entertainment system

Ok, thanks for the information. Do you know what other changes were made to the updated version? The guy at the Porsche centre said the new version is "tighter". He also told me that the turbo doesn't come with the air suspension as standard..... I looked at the brochure and it does.

I drove a '16 diesel s today as it was the only one they had available to test. I was very impressed, but I need to test the turbo.

Air PASM might not have been standard on the cars you're looking at ?

200kg? I didn't realise it was that much! None of the reviews mention this; they just say "a bit lighter". If it is 200 kg that is enough to make quite a difference.

Theres a few bits and pieces when doing a search. Pope who works at Porsche provided good info here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=162...

I think the 200KG is the difference between the first gen KN and the second, not the MY change on the second gen.

I've had both old and new KN's (turbo & hybrid) - currently looking for a nice Turbo / S to replace the Mrs' WRX STi - they are great cars IMHO

Target weight for each new generation is 200kg saving, so the saving is compared to previous model not facelift.

Another related question... which would you go for: a 2014 facelifted turbo or an almost new diesel s? The test drive of the diesel s was impressive but it felt nowhere near as quick in a straight line as the M5.

I will be trying to test drive the turbo, but they are few and far between.

Cayenne Turbo is indeed a rare car. I've ordered a Diesel Turbo S as I couldn't find a car with a spec I wanted but if a good Turbo came up I might change my mind as I don't do huge mileage. OPC described the Turbo as a "niche car" to me. GTS is also very rare.

Yeah, it is tricky. Did you test drive an updated turbo? If the turbo feels considerably faster i'll wait for one to come up once I have given the M5 back. Something like this http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/detail...

I test drove a Turbo and found it was too like my dad's Diesel (which has the optional air suspension etc.). Yeah, it was quick and sounded better, but the range was pretty silly. I then test drove an Audi RS6 and it reminded me that even Porsche can't stop an SUV from driving like a boat. Iv'e had an RS6 Performance for 6 months now and love it.

Interesting. In my limited test drive with the diesel s I actually thought it drove better than my M5.

interesting;
I drove an RS6 a couple of years back and was very underwhelmed !
Ended up with a Panamera Turbo.

Different time now though, and do need 3 seats in the back, with a estate / 4x4 type boot

Mileage isnt really a consideration, as its probably only going to do about 6-8K PA.
Test drove a Diesel S and found it pretty good, but nowhere near the rush of my old (Gen1) KN turbo from memory.

It will be late spring before I'm in the market for a KN, so will have plenty of time to look.
Keeping the 991 GT3 so won't need it to be comparatively good around the corners !

Did you try a Macan Turbo? They are really a good drive and can compete with (if not outperform) most estates in terms of handling and ride comfort
