Cayenne 2006 PCM Replacement???
Discussion
The PCM head unit in my 955 (Cayenne 2006 turbo S) is playing up, it seems to be an over heating issue which shows itself as two different faults. First is says it cant find the sat nav DVD and then the whole unit reboots and then needs resetting (once this starts its every few mins)
This is annoying so I am considering a swap for a more modern replacement unit which has a sat nav that works from postcodes, one that I can link my iPhone to and one that has a DAB radio
Any thoughts please. I am thinking there must be a good replacement head unit out there, also one that will still operate as part of the car (steering wheel buttons etc)
Thanks for your help with this

A similar subject came up a few months ago and I have copied my response below. The Pioneer unit is very good the online manual runs to about 250 pages which gives you an idea of the complexity available if you want it.
"Mine did the same as this last year - did some net research and a firm called Cartronics near Brooklands came up whom I suspect your previous respondent used too as they charge about £90 to diagnose. I had a similar choice pay about a grand for the fit of another refurbed Porsche Unit or a bit more for a new updated unit.
To be fair the Porsche Unit was rubbish and showed its age now and I decided to cough up the bit more which was quite a bit more with fitting but a got a very good Pioneer that brings the car up to date in terms of infotainment - i.e. touchscreen, bluetooth, proper Nav with postcode input and rerouting on traffic updates, DAB although this is a waste of space IMHO, speed limit display with an annoying voice message before i found how to turn it off and I also have two leads fitted if I want to plug in an ipod and or charge the phone. You can bluetooth music straight off your phone which I really like.
Don't be tempted to buy a second hand one off ebay I think they have to be coded to work in your car and you may just end up with the same problem. I sold my busted one for £55 for spares on ebay.
Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear"
Edited to add that the steering wheel buttons work on all functions but you do lose the sat nav directions in the instrument display (between the rev and the speedo on the S I think the Turbo layout is slightly different). I have to say I don't find that any great loss
My car is for sale again at the moment there are some pictures of the unit in the add http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
