Evening all, I’ve got a couple of weeks before I lock down my spec for a GTS. My salesman is strongly advising that I spec Nav as he says it will be disastrous for residual values if I don’t. Problem is , neither my wife or I will ever use it and I intend to keep the car at least five years by which time the nav will be hopelessly outdated anyway. Is the salesman just trying to be pushy or is there an element of truth in his doom-laden prophecy?

I would say yes looking at other examples which seem to be sticking.

The new PCs 4.0 is a big upgrade as well over the old system.

Congrats on the gts, mine arrives in a little over a month.

A lot can change in 5 yrs. I think you've got to spec it. Annoys me that Porsche don't make it simpler by making it a standard fitment and just adding a couple of grand to the ticket price.

"connect" @ £400 or even "connect plus" @ £800 seem to incorporate apple car play so you could use the nav on your iphone anyway? If thats the case then connect plus seems more or a must have future proofing option than Nav but guess what! I have just seen you can't have connect anything without the Nav...eh?

Macan without NAV books £2.5k lower on trade in.

Worse, a Macan without NAV will stand out like a sore thumb come resale time...

I think a lot depends on how the OP intends to sell the car on in five years time and what the rest of the spec is. If it's got an amazing spec apart from the lack of Satnav he might still be able to sell relatively easily if he's prepared to go private. Trade will always crucify you for it IMHO.

I think it's worth speccing it because it's only about £1000. A lot of the other options won't make a difference to residual value, but Nav does. It might not make a grand's worth of difference at 5 years old, but still worth including in your spec IMO - the new system is pretty good (and enables you to add speed limit display as well which may be of interest).

Porsche should include some of these options in the base spec, Nav, parking sensors, dimming mirrors should be standard on a luxury SUV or Panamera-type car. It always makes me smile to see an old sales invoice for an impact bumper car with the only option listed as Radio Cassette, or Sunroof, things were so much simpler then smile

It's utterly absurd these features aren't standard in a car like the Macan. Almost everyone will select the option. I understand some things are truly optional (rear TVs etc), but basics like this on a car like the Macan really should be included. To the OP, you will cause yourself big problems down the line if you don't specify it. It could make trade in nigh on impossible.

Thanks for all the replies. I know its only £1000 but frustrating as we’ll never use it and it should be standard on a 55k motor, as others have said.
Does anybody know if it can be retro-fitted at later date?

They'll probably charge at least 3x that later on.

Retro fitting is a nightmare and even more expensive.

Are you getting Finance? If so ask you OPC to run the numbers on both. The relative cost won't be that much different.

Surely Connect is the option to have?

Just think of it as standard on a £56k motor. smile. Or if you prefer , think Porsche are offering you an extra £1k discount for not having it.

Exactly this. Spec whinging is so naive.
