Currently on the hunt for an early Cayenne in 3.2 V6 guise and a budget of up to £7kish.

I have the usual bases covered in terms of where to look but would be interested to hear off anyone who has, or knows someone who has, a suitable car for sale. Expecting the best examples are likely to come from private sellers I'd like to try and go down this route.

Feel free to PM me. Not fussed about mileage, more interested in (mechanical) condition and history.

I have a 2004 in the classifieds for sale that I have owned for ages, all the big jobs have been done and the spec is very high. It's not a 3.2L but a 4.5L but in terms of mpg there's so little difference I went for the extra grunt and much nicer soundtrack of a V8

It's a bit more than £7K but I'm open to a sensible offer e.g. if you don't want the My KN plate etc??

pm if you want to know any more, I've just been away in it for the weekend and it's a brilliant and comfortable machine.

Cheers

I've just bought my wife an early Cayenne as a first car, my advice is to shop around and be very careful as I viewed a lot of dogs before I found a suitable car (and even that needed a number of jobs following a PPI). My top tips are:

- Be aware of inherent engine problems with the V8
- Get the prop shaft looked at closely as it's a known fault
- The lower the spec the less there is to go wrong - some of the cars I viewed had (expensive) problems with the electric tailgate and posh suspension
- Sun roofs can leak damaging electrics
- The eat tyres & brakes
- Many cars will have been used to ferry kids around so you may need to look hard to find one with an intact / clean interior

All of that said, if you can find a good one they are great safe cars and a real bargain. I paid just under 10K for mine but it had none of the faults noted above.

Happy hunting!

Excellent, thanks.

It's early days in my search but will likely drop you a PM Steve. Certainly sounds like a well looked after example.

The starter motor shriek as you call it was probably caused with the coolant pipes cracked. The coolant gets inside, depending on the amount and the amount of use it gets the shriek is brief but loud in the cabin. The starter motor isn't that expensive to change or refurbish but is a bugger to get to. It won't as you say stop it from starting.

It's a fair assumption except.......... the water pipes went about 5 years ago fairly early in my long ownership.

They fractured under heavy braking during a spirited drive so I had the car picked up immediately rather than risk limping home with insufficient coolant. This was when I found out it was a common fault!!

Fantastic alround transport I will one day have another almost certainly a turbo😀
