924 vs. Early 944
Discussion
I actually own a 924 since Feb this year, I had been looking for a 944 for a few months and went to see 5 or 6 of them but never got around to driving any of them because they were fairly shoddy looking.
Then a 924 hit my radar, it was local, in very good shape and relatively low mileage and a decent price so I bought it.
I really like it although its a bit cumbersome to drive at lower speed in terms of handling and although it is fun, it's not quick and I'd id kind of prefer my Mk1 MX5 back than keep the 924.
How much better or different is a 924 2.5 or 2.7? Do you think I should upgrade to scratch the itch?
Also, how much different is the suspension; is the handling much better?
What say you. Thanks in advance

Series two cars (oval dashboard) have steadier geo and more legroom, but an MX-5 still has a better driving position. The earlier the series one car the better it will drive.
1988 944s are not great, but the 1989 2.7l is better.
Despite the received wisdom, the best handling car would be a 924 Turbo and I say that as an ex-968CS and M758 owner.

I've run a mk1 MX5 and a late 944 Turbo for about 5 years. Previous to the Turbo I had an early square dash 944. I've also some experience in a '77 924.
All 924's/944's feel weighty compared with the MX5, good old German engineering. I've always found they respond to being taken a little bit by the scruff of the neck.
I think it really depends on what you want from the car. Jump in, fling it around at relatively low speeds then MX5 or something a little more mature then 944 2.5 or 924S. The Porsche's really need a suspension / bush / wheel alignment refresh to bring out the best in them.

924S is a good compromise and well worth fitting the Augment Automotive Ltd upgraded ECU, fast road cam and fuel pressure regulator.
How much did that all cost including set up ?I thought it was worth while.
