Hello all,

next step as ever is to decide how much to spend!

From reading past threads the decision on which model to choose can be pre or post facelift(2008-).

Pre-facelift cars go up to 20k. Is there a sweet spot for how much I should be looking to pay?

It appears that the facelift cars are meant to have the niggles ironed out. Looking at prices the cheapest private ones are around 20k (~ 80k miles) with dealer prices anywhere from 23k upwards.

So my question is, are the facelift cars worth paying the extra for over the earlier cars?

Last question, I guess this is the wrong time of year to be buying a 4X4! In the experience of those that have the knowledge, how much are prices to fall if at all as summer approaches?

Thanks In Advance

Currently have for sale a facelift Cayenne, 4.8S in Black fully loaded for £16.5k.

Its a lovely thing and we are going to miss it but needs must.

Watch out for corroded suspension lines as we just had to do them at a cost of £1100. And its a common issue. The Porsche Warranty didn't cover it.

Make sure you get one with the extended Warranty though like ours has.

go for the car with the least mileage you can find, don't worry if its facelift or not

Once you start getting near the ten year mark its on condition and what's already been fixed. A low mileage one that been parked on street for weeks on end and sprayed with salt every winter is a good miss.

I wouldn't touch a non-facelift car. There are lots of 2007-2009 cars available between £10k & £20k so just look for one that has had the right work done to it and a decent service history.

I've seen a couple of 1 owner cars in that price range, anyone who paid £70k for the thing new is likely to have looked after it so should be a solid buy. I'd steer clear of cars with a lot of owners, it makes me thing a bunch of people bought it, couldn't afford to run it properly and shifted it on before any work was required on it.

Lots of daft generalisations here- surely it comes down to what you like best, how much you want to pay and the condition and work done to an individual car. As has been pointed out a low mileage car might be hiding a whole host of big ticket jobs that a higher mileage well maintained and well used car doesn't.

"Once you start getting near the ten year mark its on condition and what's already been fixed. A low mileage one that been parked on street for weeks on end and sprayed with salt every winter is a good miss." Exactly this!!

I see a lot of Cayennes with cheap tyres, tatty (and gaudy) interiors poor paintwork and generally unloved but a few hundred quid chucked at a detailer and suddenly it's unloved past is hidden in the classifieds.

My 04 Cayenne has now done 110K I bought it with 60K on it, hardly uses any oil and it still runs beautifully but it's presented me with some big bills. As I used it every day it had the best wipers, the best zenon bulbs (£80 each) Michelin tyres, V-Power fuel, everything fixed as soon as it went wrong. I say used as it has now been replaced as a daily driver and HQ is nagging frown It is very difficult to sell the best all round car I have ever owned, and one day I will come back for a Turbo.

Thanks to everyone for their input so far. I wanted to report back on where I am.

I have been taking my time and waiting for the right car, I eventually went to see a Porsche 08 Cayenne Turbo. It was a nice drive, but the interior seemed a little dated, the Nav was pretty poor, PCM2 I think. It drove really well, and the surge when you put your foot down was pretty amazing. However the overall package never blew me away. The prices also vary wildly, see the links below for two cars, one 21k the other 30k.

So I decided to start looking into the GTS, according to a couple of porsche specialists I talked to, these seem to be in more demand, perhaps an assumption that the Turbo is likely to cost more to maintain as the car grows older.

Certainly for the same money, you will get a slightly newer car, with PCM3 and a much nicer interior. You also get a normally aspirated V8 with a nice V8 sound smile Which I must admit, I would probably get more enjoyment out of rather than the once in a while amazing surge of power the TT would give.

Anyone have thoughts on the GTS? I know it's down on power, but it just seems a nicer package, especially with PDCC and Air Suspension.

Regards.

Just bought a 09 Cayenne diesel to replace a RR Vogue td6....seems quite basic spec wise compared to the RR, ours has leather, power tailgate, air suspension, 20" wheels and touch screen nav/bluetooth.

Its a nice vehicle to drive and rides very well, is very quiet at motorway speeds, averaging 27 mpg mixed.

1 lady owner FPSH done 77K, bought it trade for 17K...when looking for one found the diesels are very much in demand, as seemed to be the petrol GTS models.

Good luck in your search
