Hi

I've always liked the look of these and fancy one to replace my Merc SL (R129)

The rear seats put me off though. We have a medium size dog, he goes everywhere with us, often a 5-6 hours in the car per day but sometimes a 7-8hrs day. The SL has a flat rear seat, enough space for him to lie on and get comfortable.

The Porsches rear bucket type seats just won't cut it. I suspect it's all about the transmission tunnel getting in the way. Anyone found a solution? Maybe a custom made seat pad that sits on top of the rear bench?

Drop the rear seat backrest down and it forms a large, long flat surface with the boot. That gives you loads of space.

Thanks, that sounds like a plan. clap Do they split or fold as a bench? I would need to feed his harness through to plug it into a seatbelt socket.
I'd also need to be careful re luggage moving about, are there hooks to clip a luggage net to?

Found this pic of a folded rear seats (bench type) with bike, so certainly room for a medium sized dog and you'd be able to feel the dog lead from the seatbelt clip underneath.

Looks promising. Dog and luggage space are just as important as the car. wink
At least I don't have to worry about children as well.

Folding seats was standard AFAIK, but individually folding seats was a (rather expensive) option.

I know the silver roses have them as standard, not sure about the >89 turbos? Someone here might be able to help on that.

We have a 944s2 cabrio & our large lurcher regularly travelled in the back, draped over the seat for touring holidays abroad. We put "stuff" behind the seats to level up the gap (vanity case, coats etc)and put the dog rug over the rear sear squabs. No problem. We now have a spaniel & a small lab & they will co-exist in the back...again with the gap blocked up. We used a harness on the lurcher clipped onto a seat belt mounting in case she saw something small & furry & decided to take off after it! The boot on the cab takes 4 useful suitcases & assorted tins of dog food, dog biscuit etc with ease & a bit of effort!

Most Turbos have split folding rear seats.

The other variants only have them if they were selected as an option or have been retrofitted at a later date, therefore they are not common

Thats my 944 Turbo.

It has a one piece rear seat back, but split seats were an option from 1988 onwards/.

And that's my Bike! smile

here is my doggy in the back of that 944, he used to fit nicely in my 968 too.

he was actually more comfortable as it is a smaller space than the XK8 and the SAAB that followed them, and meant that he didn't slide around as much, he used to lie his head on the armrest and occasionally stick his wet nose into my armpit which was always a surprise!

Nice photo. smile

All very tempting, but it's going to have to wait. I've been on an spending spree eek with my current MB SL.
Bodywork tidied up and hood repaired, new bushes/srms/ball joints/top mounts/shocks/brakes/flex discs/rad fan/wheels tyres and heaven knows what else.

An embarrassing amount of money spent, so going I'm going to try to keep the car for a few more years to get some value from it.

note to self next time I buy an old car make sure all the work has already been done

Mrs PR making noises re an additional dog so may need a more spacious waggon.

Shame, those two look a perfect size for each side of the rear seat!
