I've been given one for a few days while the GT2 gets its annual pampering. I can't believe how good it is! love the engine (apart from the annoying and very unporsche like diesel clatter at low speeds) and the chassis is just brilliant.
Never driven a car that's so stable at speed and refined, yet tight enough to really chuck it around.
The turbo must be incredible, definitely on the main car list for when they're reasonable money and the Jaag XJR has served its term.
Anyone else discovered Porsche's best kept secret??

Had a 300bhp diesel loan car last year whilst the GT3 was waiting for a new engine. Really enjoyed driving it. Had a look at used prices and they were very strong. The car I drove had the air suspension and the larger fuel tank options. Remarkable chuckability and range.
The 300hp diesel is a wonderful engine.... sounds great & pulls well (0-60mph in 5.1s, 100mph in 13.1s).
Not sure its the most economical diesel in its class... didn't get more than 20mpg in my commute, but managed 35-40mpg on the motorway.
Very stable on motorways and a lovely chassis, but I just can't get my head around such a long and wide "family" car that only has 4 seats and even then its hardly super spacious in the rear.

Crazytalk saying it's a rubbish engine, it just isn't. A little clattery I suppose but otherwise strong as hell in the midrange. why would you say it's rubbish? did I miss something?
But yeah I thought just this one was a four seater, assumed it was optional. This puts me out of the frame given I have three kids.

Good to see a Panamera thread at last! I put a deposit down on a 2012 GTS yesterday and should be sorting out collection towards the middle of the month.
I'm handing back my E63 bi-turbo and looking forward to getting back into a naturally aspirated, more driver focussed car. My love affair with tyre shredding torque is on the wane and I fancy something with better throttle response. I couldn't believe how the Panamera made my 2013 E63 feel like a Toyota Corolla in terms of build quality, premium feel etc.
I tested the Audi S7 (dull with terrible forward visibility), Audi S8 (new version - more interesting than the S7 but quality has really taken a dive on the newer models) and Maserati Ghibli (cheap feeling and not quick enough).
I considered the M4 and M5 but neither felt particularly special and I don't think they offer up the thrills of previous M cars.
Very excited to get my first Porsche!

Does it rev to about 7000rpm? Does it scream like a banshee? Does it produce more horse power than torque? Does it accelerate like a rocket?But yeah I thought just this one was a four seater, assumed it was optional. This puts me out of the frame given I have three kids.

I think the current Panamera is a bit like the original shape Cayenne.
Underneath it's a very good car, but its reputation and popularity has always been compromised by its questionable looks.
When the Cayenne was re-styled and improved in 2010, it became the hottest luxury SUV on the block with huge waiting lists. The ugly duckling became a swan.
My guess is the same will happen with the next generation Panamera.
Porsche will listen to the critics, improve every little aspect, especially the fugly styling, and it will become the 'must have' hot executive express.

I've just had a 300hp Panamera Diesel for 48 hours because my GTS didn't arrive last week.
My impression was that it's a luxury saloon rather than an overtly sporting one. The ride was excellent (PASM), the 8 speed auto was extremely smooth and the steering was very good but it didn't really have the levels of engagement I would expect from a Porsche. That said, it felt special at low speeds in a way that a 7 series and even a new S8 didn't. It was surprisingly chuckable however, and shrank around me enough to forget about the width, even around town.
The noise was not intrusive and while it had a typical diesel-rumble, it wasn't harsh or particularly unpleasant. Performance was perfectly adequate but not thrilling. I'm bored of the wall of torque from turbo engines, whether they're petrol or diesel and this car had no trouble spinning it's wheels in the dry, in a straight line.
As an everyday driving tool, I thought it was a well executed car but I'd want something a bit more exciting, particularly given it's a Porsche.

the spinning wheel problem is one I sympathise with - I remember this putting me off the diesel too; and the 1st gen hybrid
However, I can safely say with 4WD in the Turbo, you don't have this problem - even in the wet - it shifts out of junctions like a rocket

Panamera will be my nexct car - prob a hybrid due to CC tax, but at present I have a lowly 535d, which does 0-60 in 5.3, 50mpg on a run and has recently been on the autobahn at a satnav confirmed 168mph.
The Panamera Diesel engine is superior even to this.

My last car had 530 ft/lbs of torque, which meant I never used that much of the rev range, hence moving to a NA car I can rev out.
