928 S2 brake master cylinder
Discussion
Hello,
I am new to the forum. I've struggled to find a secondhand brake master cylinder for my 1984 (i.e. early) manual box 928 S2. It's not made any more. I did get mine refurbished supposedly but it is still not working.
I've tried Paul Anderson as I've read he is a 928 guru but get no answer whether I phone/email/text. Also tried other breakers. I've Googled the part and it's out of stock everywhere.
Any ideas anyone please? My car is with a Porsche specialist who has pressurised the brake system and bled it after my home attempts failed. They say it's the master cylinder at fault.
Thanks

Sign up to the list on http://www.928.org.uk which is a site dedicated to the 928 with many owners who may be able to help you out.
Keep trying Paul at 928 spares - got my car back from him a few weeks back, good guy and obviously knows his 928's but he was sometimes difficult to get in touch with...always did within a day or two though!
Not had mine long so still getting to know it but it's already swallowed a fair few of my hard earned £££££'s!

Thanks, I did try previously and saw the link to Paul Anderson. I will try the mailing list service suggested. Rgds
If Paul A is too busy to reply then perhaps give Chris Sanderson a call at Loe Bank Motors on 01706 826060 who are based in Edenfield, Bury, because he certainly has a great deal of experience with working on 928's and might be able to help you out.Certainly the 928.org.uk list has a wealth of information for any 928 owners and coincidentally there has been a great deal of chat about the brake master cylinder in the last few emails I've been receiving.

At the risk of being a bit left field you already have a brake master cylinder and it seems getting another one is proving hard, if you buy a refurbed one it may have the same issue you have with your refurbed one, if you buy used it may need a refurb or fail soon after fitting and a new one will be very expensive.
It being a brake master cylinder is a pretty simple item, I'd be distinctly tempted to strip it and find what the issue is, if the seals are shot it hasn't been refurbed, if the cylinder is stepped/pitted or scored and just had new seals fitted the reconditioner is an idiot and if the seals are fitted the wrong way round it's a simple fix and see above comment.
Basically as long as the bore is clean it's an easy fix, even if it isn't then you can get them sleeved pretty cheaply. Might be the quicker easier solution especially as you have the cylinder in hand and can strip it to identify the fault straight away. Big red might be able to help with seals.
