Cayenne Turbo (955) + LPG
Discussion
I thought I would post up about my Cayenne Turbo to help those who may be considering buying one. They are fantastic cars and im on my 2nd one at the moment. Mine is a 2004 Twin Turbo and is used as out main car. My other car is a Ferrari and both get used as daily drivers.
First Cayenne I bought was about 4 years ago and drove it for over a year. We sold it but regretted it immediately so in Sept 2013 we purchased another. My only regret is that I didnt fit an LPG tank straight away, but more on that in a bit. The car I now have is a Black on Black leather with factory de-chrome, originally owned by an Kian Egan of Westlife. Car was in good condition overall and had recently had a major service carried out from Porsche.
If you have not driven one before you must. They are fantastic and streets ahead of the Cayenne or Cayenne S. The twin turbo moves the car quicker than many sports cars of smaller size. I had a 911 C4S up until recently and the Cayenne was almost as quick in a straight line. In the wet its fantastic and solid.
Over the past 14 months I’ve spent a fair bit. I will dig up the invoice costs if anyone is interested but here is a summary off the top of my head:
Replaced all 8 injectors – Problem with engine hesitation
Coolant pipe change - usual problem
Minor Service at Porsche – Not due until March but did it while coolant pipes were replaced
New Bridgstone Tyres
Replaced side mirror + Casing - after wife left the mirror open and someone hit it!
BRC LPG system with 90L tank in boot
Im sure there have been other bits as well. Will check through invoices later.
Fitted the LPG tank this week after I decided I will be keeping this car for at least 2 years more. Payback for the system is about 12 months
Other jobs I need to do:
Kessy keyless system is not working. I think its just that the key needs to be mapped to the system
May look to do a facelift upgrade
New a new set of mats. Ones fitted are non Porsche
Other than that I think it’s a great car. The LPG makes it more economical and the wallet feels better. Its been a long time since a full tank only cost £40!

Hey Guys. I did a lot of research before I did it but went with a company here in London called Battersea Autogas http://www.autogas4u.co.uk/
Whole experience was good and Marco has been recommended on a number of forums. He's done Cayenne Turbos before so he was able to tell be which system would work best with the car. Aparantely the ability to pump enough fuel is a key consideration! :P

Thanks for the review, I was considering one of these too but was put off because I couldn't find much about them on LPG, did you have to have any modification to the boot floor?, as I did read others saying one bad point of Cayennes on LPG is the relativly small tank size, but 90 L is a good sized tank!!.
I went with a Range Rover 4.4 on LPG in the end, really safe engine to LPG and plenty of space in the boot, plus I like them, would definately look at a Cayenne Turbo next time though.

I'd like to see photos of the boot/tank/filler neck if you get chance please. For the mileage I do (11,000 in over 2 years) it wouldn't be worth it but it would still be interesting to see.
If you need a proximity antenna for the interior for the KESSY system let me know, I have a new one left over from when a car had 2 faulty ones but managed to replace just one to get it through the OPC warranty check.
Also, I'd suggest getting a set of tailored rubber mats at this time of year. My S has grey leather & carpets and the (genuine) carpets mats were starting to get grubby so via an eBay seller I got some excellent black rubber ones, perfectly cut for the car which use the original mountings, cost about £25 and mean I never worry about getting in the car with muddy wellies on. I guess they're the sort of thing to swap to when fitting winter tyres (mine were put on last week).

We are currently looking at LPGing our 2006 Turbo S, we did actually have it booked in with someone in the Midlands around this time last year but unfortunately due to a serious family issue at the time we never got round to dropping it off.
Still looking at getting it done but will be most likely in the new year now. I spoke to a couple of installers on the LPG forum - one of which I had booked the car in with - and they mentioned things about cars coming back with starting issues etc and needing a few tweaks, so will be looking forward to hearing your feedback on the LPG. Some pics of the install would be great as well if possible

I had a Range Rocer last year too with an LPG tank but I found one of the annoyances for me was the low fuel range due to the space saver fuel tank. I found every three days I was filling up. Hence for the Cayenne I opted for the larger cylinder tank which although takes up some boot space does give be me at least a week of driving between fills. My spare wheel is still accessible but what they did was cut the lid on the boot floor to give a new hinge. Part of their standard service.

Thanks. I'll let you know about the KESSY system once I get on to that job. I have a set of non original carpet mats in at the moment. Not a big fan and it always bugs me when I get in. What I may do is replace them in the spring with an new original set. Also I will take pics of the system when I get a chance. Given that it's always dark when I get home I might not be able to take decent pics until the weekend.

Sorry to hear about your troubles and hope it was all ok in the end. I wasn't there for the install. They had it for about a week so picked it up when the job was complete. I will take pics of the finished job over the weekend. Feedback so far, £49 for 75L yesterday!
Hi mate I too am looking to have an LPG kit fitted on my 2004 Cayenne Turbo , can you tell me what kit was fitted , did it have 1 or 2 vaporisers fitted and what colour injectors did it have , have you have any problems since
Also if you dont mind how much did the full conversion cost
Thanks
Gary

I would also like to see more information on this, photos, costs involved in installation etc.
I'm looking to purchase a CTT myself and most info I've seen on LPG conversions comes to the conclusion that its a bad idea. If there is a 100% safe setup out there then I would be VERY interested..
Thanks, Graham

The system installed is a BRC Plug & Drive with a 90L tank in the boot. I will try and post up pics when I get a chance. Cost was £2,100 inc vat.
Feedback I can give is a bit mixed. The work done by Battersea Autogas was great and the service has been brill. However I have an underlying problem that I am trying to resolve so I had the system disconnected today so Porsche could work on the engine.
For sometime now the engine has been hesitant and the problem had been put down to the ignition coils. However I replaced all of them and the problem is still there. Today the spark plug were all changed and that too has not resolved the problem. Just to clarify this is running the car on Petrol not gas.
I’ll be booking the car in with Porsche next week to resolve and then have the gas reconnected. Then I’ll be back to cheap motoring!

Update on the car. Porsche have fixed the misfire problem which turned out to be an injector on cylinder 4. I had one previously changed in October last year so that’s two in 6 months. Just to be safe I will probably change the other 6 as well, but I’ll do that myself as that seems to be an easy enough fix for me to do, just as a precaution.
Which the car was in I had Porsche carry out a bore scope just to make sure there were not any other problems causing the issue. Luckily it call came through clear so engine has been given a clean bill of health.
Hope to pick up the car today or tomorrow!

Hello, did you have any other problems occuring? Do you think it was relevant to the LPG installation?Which the car was in I had Porsche carry out a bore scope just to make sure there were not any other problems causing the issue. Hope to pick up the car today or tomorrow!
How much did it cost to fix the injector?
Also, if it is possible, could you upload some pictures of the installation?
Since there have been about a year from your last message, how has it been going with the LPG, any problems?
I am very interested to installing BRC to my CTT model 2005, but i am afraid that something will happen to the engine..
