Had the service a couple of weeks ago and foolishly agreed to pay their £40 to get the main car key battery replaced - only for the key to go dead this morning. Ffs clearly my fault for being lazy but does make me wonder if they even replaced the oil & filters...

Probably not, I have found in the past if the car does low annual miles they don’t do many of the consumables, for instance when I went to clean out the airbox on a 30 month old JCW that had been serviced at 2 years the filter was the one it left the factory the filter and box were filthy, now I always change the air filters my self and clean box which they never do even if they do replace the filter

I paid £7.82 in 2023 to have the key battery replaced and was shocked at the time.

Ha- didn't mind paying the £40 IF they were actually going to replace it. In any case I ordered 2x CR2032 batteries off Amazon yesterday same day for £4 and replaced both keys, it's a pretty easy swap.

Now, anyone know where I can get the oil inspected to see if they really did change it...

I agree - the air filter is not a 10 minute job to access. I would suggest many have never been changed.

Along similar lines - OPC quoted almost 3k for a 12-year service.

Ninemeister did it for a kebab over 1k, including checking a couple of things at my request.

They previously changed the key battery for, I think, £5.

The eternal question - keep in warranty therefore pay the Porsche OPC tax or take it outside and take savings with the additional risk. If the 12 year service cost's 3k that would make me think twice I suspect..

I wouldn’t trust my local dealer to change a key battery (not that I’d ask them to)…. Let alone touch my car.

This is also my thinking, and why I don't care about the warranty anymore. I'd rather pay someone that knows what they're doing

Would a non OPC serviced car put you off buying ?

My 2023 Cayman 4.0 is due a big service in January and I am unsure if I go OPC (Preston) of a local specialist.

Me personally, no - I would value a car that's been to a respected indie higher, as I believe the work would have been done to a higher standard and not just to a time constraint. But I accept that's not how the market thinks.

My Spyder will be going to an indie from now on, as I believe it's in the best interests of the car. I accept it may hit the resale value to an extent, but I don't really care

No, not at all.

So long as it's gone to a Porsche specialist and not a random garage
