Rear screen problem
Discussion
I have a 2001 986 S which I’ve owned for ten years and SORNed for the last five, but has now been serviced and put back on the road. Drives like a dream and feels like a new car.
One problem however. It originally had the early hood with the plastic rear screen, but a previous owner replaced it so it now has the glass screen ‘facelift’ version. I’ve recently noticed that the rear screen surround is beginning to detach itself from the glass. The hood still works fine but I now live in fear that one day it may go down and refuse to come back up – or even worse, get stuck half way!
I have now had several garages and glass specialists tell me they can’t help. Any suggestions before I get out the Araldite and bodge it myself?
(My compromise will be to keep the hood down all the time, and fit a cover when necessary, as I don’t have a garage.)
Left side

Right side is fine

As I'm only a poor pensioner I'd have to save up for a new roof - if I fix it myself as a temporary option, any ideas how to go about it?
There's a company called Stormsure who make black flexible adhesive for soft tops, might be worth getting a tube of that to fix it.https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/p/m9f6c4/stormsu...
I maintain my original suggestion, look for another hood because that one isn’t worth spending any money on. Anything you can do yourself needs to withstand use and that isn’t going to be easy. There’s a product called Shoe Goo which might be okay for a while, but it’s only a temporary fix.

Thank M138, have ordered a repair kit from Stormsure so we'll have to see how that goes.
(If it ever stops raining.)
Just from my experience of using Stormsure adhesive I would apply it with a cocktail stick, don't put masses on as it's a pita to get off things that shouldn't have. Take your time and perhaps use some masking tape to hold it in place till it goes off. It is vey strong and flexible.(If it ever stops raining.)
Best of luck

If you ever decide to replace it, Monsoon Car Hoods in East Sussex do a 986 roof with glass window for around £850, which is bound to be a lot less than an OPC.Question: Does the fixed glass mean more stress when the hood's down because it doesn't fold like the plastic one? If so, failure seems inevitable.
Thought: Try getting one of the specialists who fit new plastic, folding windows into old hoods to quote you for stitching in a new plastic window.
Cheapskate: You could DIY it with some new transparent plastic from ebay or wherever. Video below,
