Potential Purchase - 981S Boxster - Thoughts?
Discussion
Hi all,
I've come across a late 2013 (MY14) boxster 981S PDK which is potentially coming up for sale by.a trader friend who is taking it in as px from a doctor owner. Covered 49,500 miles and It as had 2 owners from new, the last owner had it for 11 years (i.e. since 2015). The car has been maintained fully by Porsche Main Dealership including all MOTs and any maintenance items including tyres etc. The last service done last year included Spark plugs, Belt and PDK gearbox oil (12 year service). It has sports chrono, sports steering wheel, heated seats, climate, front/rear sensors, upgraded sounds system (not bose), color matching roll over bars and 20" classic carrera wheels but lacks PSE and sports seats. My heart says it looks like a good buy based on the history. The car is for weekend blasts and some future roadtrips. I do have the following concerns:
- Mileage as from november 2022, the owner had done around 300 miles only (based on porsche invoices/MOTs). Could this be an issue as its not been driven much?
- Does not have PSE, but i guess there are alternative I can do i,e, Carnwell mod?
- Lack of sports seats, just standard seats I believe. Again, not sure if this is real deal breaker.
Otherwise, the exterior colour, hood color and interior colour is a good combination

Sounds lovely.
I have boggo sears and more than happy with them, comfortable and hold me in just fine.
Sports exhaust is nice and it adds a giggle factor, but it’s all fake noise. It can be added later. Getting a good quality car at the right price, colour with most of your options ticked would be my priority.
Getting the perfect spec second hand is going to be a waiting game, you could be having fun. Just factor in the cost of doing it later.

I'm on the lookout for a manual 981S and the availability has really dried up of late. At one point last week there was just 1 car available in the UK. I appreciate its summer so demand for convertibles goes up, but is this a sign that people are reverting more and more to manual cars with a decent engine.

I'd recommend trying cars with comfort and sports plus seats as they make a huge difference. I couldn't buy a car with the comfort seats they just don't provide enough support, and I finf them more comfortable too. Available as 2 way of 18 way electric.
Or the better 14-way seats without the high sided base - women especially dislike climbing over these to get in/out.Base seats, I agree, are rubbish.
My choice in manual 981? Base 2.7.
