Hi,

Has anyone upgraded their standard (non Xenon) H7 headlight bulbs?

If so, which ones would you recommend please?

I find the standard lights quite poor if I'm honest.

Thanks.

Hi, I did this on a halogen 981 Boxster - one of the best upgrades I did to it.

I bought the Phillips LED dipped beam bulbs. By far the most expensive LED product on the market for them, but I wanted to ensure great quality and remove any fear or overheating risks. I ran them for three years with zero fault.

Technically any non-halogen bulb is illegal in a halogen housing and will fail an MoT, but I had zero issues. The colour is OEM and the beam pattern is sharp. You’ll have no issues.

Schuey, let me know what you go with. I appear to have a bulb out (but no warning message...) so I will obviously replace - and ideally upgrade - both. Just looking into options.

If you can post any updates/links thumbup

Just make sure whatever bulbs you are are road compliant / legal because many aftermarket ones aren't

Just catching up with this thread. I haven't ordered anything as yet. But all of the above seem like decent viable options and will be better than what I have at the moment. Please let me know how you get on with the Philips ones, as I might order the same then. Thanks.

Crappy photos but hope of some help.

So first things first I was changing bulbs because of a blown bulb, wasn’t necessarily seeking to upgrade, just to put right.

Ended up going with these with the aim for a small improvement without too big a sacrifice on longevity (although the job was a breeze - hardest bit was disconnecting the loom).

Got some bonus bulbs! Not sure what for - look like number plate bulbs to me??

Photo 1 - how it was. Note this is with just one headlight working.

Photo 2 - new offside bulb in, so one old, one new.

Photo 3 - new bulbs in both.

Initial thoughts are they won’t be life-changing but maybe a small improvement? Colour looks nice; less yellow but not the blue-white that would look too modern on the car. Haven’t driven it yet but I have been unknowingly driving with one headlight for however long so I expect to notice an improvement but will be hard to know if it s the bulbs or just two lights instead of one hehe

Thank you for taking the time to take the photos and upload here. I agree there is not a massive difference in those pictures at least, but I'm sure you'll notice some improvement on the road. Better than before for sure smile

Just bought these:

Easy to fit, 5 mins a side and already look more promising

Will report after first night drive

That's a pretty good result. Any errors on the dash?

No codes
First night drives done, vast improvement (I live very rural)
Will probably upgrade main beam to LED too but will suffice for now
