Well after previously having two Boxsters (981 S and 718 S) and then moving to 3 Aston Martins - have decided this weekend to sell my Aston Martin DB12 Volante - it’s only 6 months old. Have felt good having them but now feeling a little underwhelmed by it so looking forward to finding either a new or nearly new one at £90 ish - but without the alcantara steering wheel.

Can’t wait for things to move ahead on this

worst ways if you find the right car have the steering wheel recovered in leather

That’s a good solution I guess. I used a firm years ago who did my BMW at the time - are there firms who do this now?

I can’t explain it - don’t really feel excited by having it anymore and wouldn’t be sad to see it go, however much an amazing car it is.

However I’m really excited about the 4.0 GTS and having so much fun in it

I got a 4.0 GTS in April, now they have stopped making them it could be my last Porsche.
Sound appears to get better with mileage, I picked mine up on 2900 miles, its now on 4500 miles and sound has definitely improved with people saying it gets even better by about 10000 miles!

I found my 4.0 underwhelming, the Boxster architecture is quite dated and the 4.0 with its various mandated various filters never sounded as nice as earlier cars.

My only other option is a Ferrari 488 Spyder - which I find tempting but having a 7 year old car worries me a little maybe

Maybe also consider a Spyder? I had a 4.0 Boxster and loved it. Now have a 718 Spyder which is just that bit better to drive and feels more special. Looks sensational too

Spyder RS is also a great car, with many available, but is much more hardcore

911 GTS?

I went for a 992.1 with the manual ‘box after moving on from Aston Martin. They both have their positives and negatives but I do really miss the Aston - they’re just more ‘special’ and better everyday road cars. But then on the right road the Porsche comes alive and is in a different league to the Aston!

I always considered the roads around us to be good until I got the Porsche - it definitely rides differently! I know the 4.0 is different to the 3.0 turbo in the 992 but it’s a very underwhelming experience after an Aston V12 (I know the DB12 is a V8). I’d be interested to see whether the 4.0 has more character.

Same - I was so underwhelmed with my GTS 4.0 in the sound department that I sold it after 10 months (wanted to sell it after 2 months but decided to run it at least one summer).

Just make sure exhaust sound is not important to you. Induction sound is very good, all other aspects of the car were top notch (I prefer the “dated” interior with physical buttons, hate all the displays and touch screens on new cars).

Induction noise is quality on the 4.0.

Hope you enjoy it OP - the 718 platform is brilliant and peak Boxster IMO.

I went the other way, 992 to 4.0 Aston Vantage. Aston is a far better GT, it feels more special, however 992 was sharper handling and perhaps easier to use every day. The 4.0 V8 is an absolute belter, so much torque and lots of character.

Biggest annoyances on the 992 were the tyre noise, crappy standard stereo and that the lightweight glass acoustically vibrates if you drive with the windows open at reasonable speed... prior to that a Cayman GT4 plus a Boxster 981 2.7, which drive extremely well but the interiors of both feel very dated.

IMO the 6-pot 981/718 cars are stunning value for money as drivers' cars in the real world.

Yes, there's loads more more bling available elsewhere but once you've driven mid-engine with decent throttle response there's no looking back.

I'm in a similar search for a 4.0 GTS. I've driven the 2.0 turbo and was underwhelmed with the power delivery and soundtrack.

Frustratingly the majority of GTS's available at Porsche are quite dull colour choices - many with dark interiors and black roofs. Currently trying to find a white metallic with red roof and red interior or yellow with black roof and interior.

For the first choice in White you might find what you’re looking for in a 25 Year Edition which is basically a GTS with some additional features.

Not completely what you’re looking for but they are out there.
