Spyder RS spec'ing
Discussion
Having always wanted a Spyder but not lucky enough to get an allocation (only!) for a GT4 I have secured what Im told is one of the very the last speccable ones I need advice on whther to go for buckets and Weissach pack or not before it lock in 2 weeks
Buckets - being a hexagenarian with longstanding back problems I went for 18 ways in my GT4 (couldnt get buckets anyway) but buckets are standard and significantly more expensive, is it a mistake to go for 18-ways in a Spyder RS?
Weissach - being a Yorkshireman I'm reluctant to go for what is just cosmetic upgrades (carbon fibre exterior parts and Racetech upper dash) as it doesnt affect the PCP future value - am I safe in not ticking this box
I dont want it to be a poverty spec. but dont want to go OTT and my other provisional upgrade on spec. is
Red or Vanadium paint ,
Red trimmed roof,
Leather upper dash
Bose (although I wont hear it on the move),
CF iluminated door kicks,
PDLS dynamic lights (dont remember driving my GT4 ever in the dark!!)
Any advice on this appreciated
[One strange omission/option unavailability is the folding mirrors ?!]

If you have the option to spec one, then I would just go with what you want and not worry about the future value as you'll end up with a car that compromises you.
18 ways in a Spyder RS is far more suitable than 18 ways in a GT4RS in my eyes, one is primarily a road car and one with more suited to track use.
Bose I think is pointless as you say given you won't hear anything with the roof down and the induction howl by your right ear.
I guess the lights help, and if I was going to splurge on a non-WS car I'd probably go for the PCCB's.

Personally at this stage in the cycle and with the market as it is - I'd go buy a lightly used from an OPC.
You'll get a higher spec for a much cheaper price than a brand new car - and you'll have it quicker.
You are going to be paying a premium for the opportunity for speccing a new car and probably have less options - but if your exact spec is important to you and you have the money - just pick exactly what you want.... options have not bearing on GFV anyway.

Went through this process earlier in the year when I decided that a used car even coming close to something I could live with was never going to appear. As others have said (unless you plan to sell within a year or two) specify the car you want and not for subsequent sale - there's no point in trying to second guess the market in 5 years time. Having said that many cars are fully (if somewhat bizarrely) specced so a cheaper car may appeal to less buyers.
Seats are personal - most have buckets but some do not, whatever you specify you can be certain will not suit the next buyer when you come to sell so just buy what you want.
Colour is personal - there are a lot of Vanadium cars but few in Red which is also free.
I didn't have Bose - previous iterations of higher level audio in Porsches have disappointed and in the SRS you won't hear the difference most of the time anyway.
Look at a car with the roof trim first - it does not look the way it does in the configurator - it's a solid piece of material about 1cm wide not stitching. I thought it looked a bit cheap so didn't go for it.
I went for as much leather as i could - again personal but it does lift the cabin. Make sure you are happy with the colour of the seat inserts - I would avoid red.
Folding mirrors and headlamp wash are but two of the normal options unavailable - allegedly part of the light weighting process.
I chose my specification carefully, reviewed it once in the OPC and then left it alone. DM me if you have any specific questions.
ETA - Good point made on front lift, which I’d forgotten about speccing - more important than Bose if you need to choose.

For me 18 ways are a must as they are the only seats that can be heated. As I virtually never drive hood up even in the depths of winter then heated seats are essential. It’s a pity that the heated steering wheel from the standard Spyder cannot be specified on the SRS. I would also skip the WP as I don’t think the Spyder looks good with a black bonnet, spoils the lines for me. I would spec PCCB’s, Bose and lift and use the £10K WP saving to buy a set of the mag wheels aftermarket. That way I get a spare set of wheels for winter tyres and I get the best possible ride, handling and steering feel with the mags fitted. Another benefit of skipping WP and having the 18ways is that the seat center is black rather than the bloody awful grey. You can then go mad on colour and interior trim options to suit.
Enjoy the car, lucky man.

Seats are arguably your biggest dilemma - if you have back issues I’d be very careful to check you can live with buckets. If you get that wrong you may find your reluctant to use the car! Given you can get a heated seat with the 18 ways and it’s a convertible they are less problematic for resale than say a 4RS with comforts would be.
Weisach, or as I call it “the carbon tax” has debatable benefit apart from looking great, but bear in mind, it’s a lot easier to sell a WP car down the line if your not keeping the car long term.
Axle lift is a must for many (and I suspect also
Important for resale) and I have used mine in anger quite a few times now.

There is no right or wrong answer.
WP looks great on the right colour. My car is white and the WP is stunning. I have the painted stripe bonnet
Never ever did I consider buckets as I am tall and heavy. They are simply the best seats I have ever had other than in a 5 series and a Volvo. I get they aren’t heated and I miss that but oh my god they are comfortable just harder to get in and out of. Makes the car special even more
Bose - I have it. But the stereo is NEVER on. Better noises to listen too than that. All porsche systems are crap even burmester really.
What a car though. Special special special.
Spec is mega personal. No right or wrong answer

Thanks so much for your replies
I forgot about the front lift which I do have on the provisional spec - interestingly though I've yet to ground the GT4 (30mm drop) whereas I did with my 4.0 GTS Boxster (20mm drop) due to its softer suspension. I think having it will inspire me to use the car more as the anticipation of grounding the GT4 stops me from taking it to unknown places

I went through this recently as I got an allocation in March, build at the end of June, and initially was going to go non wiessach, but in the end, this is a big purchase, and my first ever Porsche, I wanted it perfect for me. So
I ended up going for quite alot of spec in the end.
Can’t wait till September to get it.
