Getting increasingly interested in one of these for general summer driving and potentially some road trips.

Would be very interested if anyone has had any experience of both the RS and the 718 Spyder.

Leaving to one side for the moment the fact that the Spyder has the option of the manual box which the RS does not, I am currently trying to weigh up whether the circa 50k delta in price is worth it. Clearly that’s a very subjective question but given the fact it’ll be financed and so really we are talking about a few hundred more in repayments, do people think it’s worth stepping out for the halo model or in reality is one not really missing that much with the “base” Spyder?

Views from someone who has had experiences of both would be great.

I’ve driven both. Had a 992 GT3 before so have lived with that fabulous engine. Now have a 718 Spyder. Was offered allocation of RS but turned it down as the roof (for me) was a st show and I was deaf in my right ear for an hour after testing one for ten minutes

That said, the RS was the best car I’ve ever driven. Better than the GT3. Easy to drive fast due to layout, small footprint, no fighting the DW front suspension and that engine.

But putting aside the different cost it wasn’t enough to make me change from my vanilla Spyder. The compromises were too big. Think I’d have gone for it if rubbish roof or deafening soundtrack but not both

Others love the SRS and I completely understand why. Both cars are sublime. You really won’t go wrong

While I’ve not owned a vanilla Spyder I’ve had two 718 GT4s a GT4RS and now an SRS. At almost every level the SRS is by a fair way the best of the bunch in my Opinion. Performance and excitement is a long way removed from the GT4s in particular. Saying that I’ve a long history of lotus and caterham ownership so am likely more tolerant of the roof than many others may be. I don’t find it too much of a hassle - espec if my wife is with me as my assistant!

The two cars are like night and day different. There is nothing that you can compare the RS too. Was out yesterday with my friend and we concluded the only thing that could compare was a 458 Spyder.

The engine in the Spyder is good. The engine in the RS is out of this world. I don’t find the noise deafening. And anyway / it is the driver that controls the noise with the throttle. It can easily be driven calmly with no PDK sport selected and no exhaust. I feel the exhaust button muffles the purity of the sound. Better off.

There isn’t anything on the market in that price point on the market in terms of a new car that even comes close. The delta is worth it 100%. You bet.

My OPC had two side by side. RS and normal Spyder. I was sold as soon as he started them. Crazy eh.

You get used to the roof. It is the way it is because there is so little space due to the height of the air intakes. Once you are used to it, it isn’t too bad. It isn’t a Mercedes SL!

Both are wonderful cars. Some say the best platform Porsche have produced. The RS looks epic andis a very special car. That’s the difference. Worth every penny. You won’t ever see a car like this for sale again and I think you would just always think “wish I bought the RS”
