981 CGTS diff / stability control question
Discussion
Hi all.
I've got a question on what kind of torque vectoring or stability system the 981 CGTS has? If that's even the right term.
For example, at Brands Hatch, when getting on the gas out of Druids, I'm getting no real on power rotation/slip at the rear, even with a decent amount of steering angle and a lot of gas in 2nd. It feels like the car is doing something to curb the power or straighten the line or something. The PSM/TCS/ESP/whatever the fk it's called light isn't flashing, but something else is going on at the rear. It's not intrusive, but you can feel it.
If so, presumably this isn't adjustable? Car is in sports plus mode and the PSM is on.
Cheers.

If your car has PTV it will also have an LSD, excerpt from the brochure:
"Optional PTV with rear differential lock is designed to further improve the dynamic performance. To be more specific, when the car is driven assertively into a corner, moderate brake pressure is applied to the inside rear wheel. For further angular momentum in the steering action. Under acceleration out of the corner, the rear differential lock provides increased traction."
The PTV wont stop the car from sliding and the LSD should let you hook up and power out of the corner. In sports plus you will get a flashing light in the dash when the traction is cutting in, this will also happen even with everything off. Only the GT4/Boxster Spider has fully defeatable tcs from memory.
Turn everything off and you should still be able to slide a little before the car reigns you in. Takes some commitment though as these cars have lots of rear end traction on corner exit.
As an example in my base 981:

Kept meaning to reply to this! Thanks for the info.
So I don't believe mine has PTV - it was an option, even on the GTS I believe. It just felt like the line was artificially straightening, and even whilst opening the gas, the engine didn't feel like it was initially pulling, then when the line straightened more it did, and it just didn't feel natural. I will try it again with the PSM off, as I know you can properly slide them as in your video .
Without PTV/LSD and PSM off, do you happen to know what kind of stability control would still occur? I believe PSM always intervenes if it senses ABS activation.

Been 3 1/2 years since I sold our 981CS, but thought PTV was standard on the GTS. Our CS had it, which with all the other options made it comparable to a GTS in all but name.So I don't believe mine has PTV - it was an option, even on the GTS I believe. Seem to remember without PTV it will brake a spinning wheel to try and distribute the power - not traction control but kind of a fake attempt at LSD. VAG call it EDL.
So, with PSM off, it won't intervene with braking wheels to regain stability but could brake a wheel to prevent inside wheel spinning.
Maybe that's what you felt?
