Porsche service schedule is to change the engine oil every other year, but some think this is too long considering how cheap an oil and filter change is.

Would only stray from recommended servicing intervals if the car was getting lots of short journeys, tracked or driven in a particularly dusty area - the latter is a recommendation from Porsche anyway

I think it depends on mileage as well. On the GT4 the interval is 2 years or 20k miles which does seem high. I just had mine serviced at the 2 year mark and it had done just over 10k miles since the last service. If I was doing higher mileage then I would probably look to service more often - over 12k between changes does seem a bit much, even if that’s by the book.

Annually for me, it's not much hassle really so why not. Stamped service every 2 years, quick oil and filter between that myself.

Cheers,
Dunc.

My indie advised against annual changes if it was only road miles upto 6k a year, stick to the 2 year schedule.
If any trackdays had been done he wouldn’t advise against it, but wouldn’t insist on it either.
I guess just be honest about your usage, and budget accordingly.

Every 2 years as per schedule but the most it has ever done between changes is just under 10K miles. Average miles between changes would be around 7500.

Recommended service at two years, I had the oil analyzed and it still had about 70% of its total base number left (the oils goodness) mine only does a couple of thousand per year.

If I were doing a solid 10K miles per year I'd go for a yearly change.

Yeah same here. Surely there's no downsides, except the small cost, to doing it yearly at MOT time. Also particularly as these cars aren't getting any younger I would have thought more frequent service intervals was advised?

Annually, with about 6K miles average and two or three trackdays each year. It's a straightforward operation to do myself so I see little reason not to do it.

Once a year at the same time as the MOT, not much expense and makes sense to me.

Surely they are trolling, if not they need to explain themselves!

I'm hoping that trolling is more likely.

Why does he say that? Is it just because its money wasted or is changing the oil in some way actually a "bad" thing? (like, who knows, adds chances of issues cropping up.)

I change mine yearly, but have been averaging 1k miles last 3 years and 3k mi for the 9 years before that. The shortest I did was 900mi one year!

There’s no need to change oil that regularly. Modern oil lasts 10,000 miles easily before it starts to break down.
