Hi all, I have an engine control fault consult delaer driving permitted message on my Cayman 718.

Has anyone got any experience of whwat this could be? I have booked in with Porsche, but I still need ot use the car to get around. WHen it says driving permitted, is this nromal driving? Should I be very careful with accelerating etc? Or is it okay to accelerate normally etc?

Thanks

Often caused by exhaust changes.
You could connect a obd port reader to check the error in more detail.

I hanve't changed the exhaust? Do you think it's safe to drive on though?

Probably, but you need the codes read a.s.a.p for peace of mind. The origins of OBD were all about emissions and economy and it's only later that manufacturers have broadened things to cover stuff like auto transmissions, ABS/stability control and air conditioning.

We had this after a 2-3 month lay off and OPC said caused by battery going weak wink

As above, drive in Sport mode charges the battery more quickly. Worth ruling out the simple things first.

The MFD should give supplementary information, but it is also in the manual. Despite using the same symbol, the specific fault requires you to read that supplementary info regarding how to operate the car and if any restrictions apply etc. So in your case I'd continue driving, although probably not do a trackday or bounce of the limiter until it was investigated.

This is from the rear of the Manual in the section... "Warning and Information messages".

Does the fault clear when turned off and restarted? I had this on the gt4, combined with running rough for a short period. I was on the French autoroute so couldn’t stop but the rough running disappeared and the light went off after restarting.

A couple of weeks later, same thing when back home in the UK. Porsche assist came out and said it was a coil pack which had gone bad.

Car went into Porsche and they discovered it just needed an update. Seemingly the engine shut down the cylinders to protect itself hence the rough running. No hardware changes and it’s been fine since (several thousand miles).

I had this pop up on my GTS 4.0. For me, it turned out to be that the fuel filler cap wasn't 'clicked' shut. After closing it properly and the car being turned off, it went away and hasn't returned (touch wood).

(I found a few posts on US forums that suggested an unclicked filler cap could cause this engine control fault.)
