718 Spyders - prices/are they selling?
Discussion
A very good friend has been looking for one and asked my advice on the market as he’s not sure what to pay/it seems all over the place. I know the market is very depressed across the board (having also personally experienced it selling my 992T recently) and wondered if anyone had any views/tried to buy one or trade one in recently please?
A lot of 718 Spyders came on to the market as many owners traded up to SRS's which affected values. Then many of those were bought so there's not a ton of choice right now.
Short term I guess prices will soften as we go into Autumn, but feel that they'll harden a bit in the next 2-3 years as they represent a lot of car for the money - but am guessing wildly

I've been keeping an eye on them as was contemplating switching the Targa GTS for one (manual/buckets). Saw a couple up over 100k from OPC's, but weren't quite the right spec for me (most are PDK). I think 80-85k is where the money is for them, for a late car (2022/2023 plate) with good specification, private sale/purchase.
I know it doesn't always accurately reflect the market, but just 'we buy any car' those for sale that you know the reg of. Thats what I did for one which was up for 104k, and the bid was under 80k. Certainly made me think.

Wbac is sub trade value, they make a margin and push cars in to their auction group bca, which makes a margin, before trade buyers buy them for resale and to make a margin. A Porsche dealer tries to make at least 10k …… so if you’ve cash to buy privately then getting within 5-10% of a wbac bid is good work.Interesting PTS colour. Don't think I have ever seen on any Porsche model before. Auratium Green.

Interesting, there’s one that seems sold recently on Autotrader - private sale, buckets etc, 6K miles and 22 plate - £81K. Stands out amongst the 2019 cars that people are still asking £80K plus for…. Very sub trade value I would say, and agree entirely. I sold a base 718 Cayman 2.0 to an OPC this time last year, about 18 months old. They were able to get to 8k more than WBAC had offered me. Pretty sure they made a bit more than 10k on it too.Liam
[Edit: Seeing @Milemuncher's post below reminds me that the initial offer was for the WBAC value. I had to embarrass the buyer into walking the price up, as I'm guessing making 18k on it would have reflected really well in his bonus structure. Or something... Wasn't an edifying conversation on either part.]

What an OPC would bid 12/18 months ago, against what they are bidding now is pretty much night and day. The market has collapsed.
The GT Silver one provisionally sold on autotrader is a decent spec, and priced correctly, hence selling. The others quite simply aren’t. Shame about the red dials, as couldn’t put up with them myself, but assume they could be changed ? Why would this person be selling privately if OPC’s were offering stronger money. The answer is simple, they aren’t.

WBAC offering £74500 against that Spyder that is provisionally sold and was being advertised at £81KThe GT Silver one provisionally sold on autotrader is a decent spec, and priced correctly, hence selling. I've been looking to swap from a 718 GT4 into a Spyder for the last 6 months or so, but the Spyder prices haven't softened anywhere near as much as those on the GT4. I am hoping this will eventually happen in the autumn/winter when hopefully the cost to change will narrow. Also, the pickings are pretty slim at the moment, especially when you are set on a GT silver, Gentian Blue or interesting PTS car with buckets, leather dash, etc.

I was bid £89k on my June 23 car high spec 4k miles WBAC is £79,560. My 992 Carrera T haemorrhaged cash but that's like night follows day as the 991.2T did the same for people. WBAC is great for mainstream cars and occasionally is somewhere close on Porsche but no imo on ones like the GT4, Spyder's etc.

I think pickings will remain slim as well and once the Spyder RS goes out of production I'd say for a lot of them they're in the hands of longer term keepers. They're an under the radar car in Porsche world and a lot of people just overlook them but the people who own them generally keep them for a long while. Oh and they're built in lower numbers than the GT4.How Many Left show 490 Spyders new registrations since 2019 across PDK and Manual. GT4 is 1,309 across the same time period.
