Outdoor car cover for 718 gt4
Discussion
Since my days living there, I have bought my covers from California Car Covers, they custom supply for pretty much any variant including exotics
You will be hit for import duty if you order from them though

I have a SC Stormshield+ cover for my 718 GT4. Great custom-sized cover, fits perfectly (even shaped for the GT4's rear wing and front splitter, with all the features one needs for an outdoor cover. If you have auto fold mirrors, just make sure that feature is switched off (in the PCM) when you use the cover as it's designed for the mirrors to be out. I went for a plain all-grey, so no coloured panels or street pack etc.

I would thoroughly recommend it.

When I bought my 981 GT4, the Porsche indoor covers were unavailable in UK and Europe. I found one in the USA and got it sent over. Possible a little extravagent, but I do like the genuine Porsche indoor covers. I'm sure the outdoor ones are similarly overpriced but difficult to find fault with.

Can I ask, is the motivation to get one for security or protection from the elements?
Protection for the elements. I am surrounded by trees and birds with birds with diarrhoea. The Gt4 has full PPF but I am fed up having a clean car ruined by leaves, tree sap and bird poo. My issue with car covers- and apologies for the slight tangent- is a) car needs to be clean before putting it on b) i have always struggled with the cover to not have the outside bit touch the inside bit of the cover when you are taking it off.
This basically means any car cover i have ever had gets used once ans never again. Hate to think how much money i have wasted on them.

I have an outdoor OEM Porsche cover for my 992. I have yet to try it out but my thinking was along the same lines. Winter coverage against the elements.
Concerns about covers scratching paint and also Richard Tipper (Perfection Valet) also warns against using tyre dressing and a cover as it can smear on the inside of the cover and end up everywhere you don’t want it to.
Making sure the car is clean before using sounds very sensible. I’ll be interested to hear others experience. Like many my car has to stay on the driveway all year as it’s too large for the garage, hence the cover purchase.

What I do to stop the outside of the cover contaminating the clean inside is as follows:-This basically means any car cover i have ever had gets used once ans never again. Hate to think how much money i have wasted on them.
After the new cover has been placed over the cleaned car, to take it off without the outside touching the inside, fold the cover up each side to the middle of the car. You now have only the inside showing. Then roll up the cover from either end so that you end up with a sausage shape. This can then be folded enough to get it back into its container. When you put it on the car again, just unroll the sausage shape on to the clean car and put the sides down that were previously folded up to the middle of the car. I hope this makes sense but I have used this method on a number of covers over many years and it always works and the inside of the cover remains clean.

Classic Additions or Specialised Covers.
Both generic and mtm available.
I have a medium size Classic Additions outdoor cover, which I use when I can't put my 981 GT4 in the garage, thankfully that is very infrequently, but I have had no issues with said outdoor cover. However, I would never use an outdoor cover if the car was covered in crap and other debris as it will only scratch your paint. Basically the car has to be spotless to put an outdoor cover on it. I had an outdoor cover for a car once when I was building a house, never again, blistered paint in places.
I’d only ever consider something that didn’t touch the paintwork, think carcoon possibly do one?
For every day needing a car covered, the only real solution is a garage/car port of some description as you really need to clean you car EVERY single time when using ANY sort of cover.

Quite agree and same true of an indoor cover. Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
