On a Boxster - not seen this type before and there doesn't look to be enough room to get the thickness of a socket round it anyway, at least the one on the right. They are approx 13mm. Can't be that unusual but I'm stuck trying to find out.

Looks like you might need a P9259 bit.

ECU/DME mate. Fixed to the rear bulkhead.

Unless I'm missing something, there no way to get it out without dealing with these nuts as it's held in a carrier fixed to the bodywork. Seems bloody stupid to me but as I said, maybe I'm missing something.

They're security nuts as one third of the immobiliser system is in the ECU. The good news is they're never torqued up beyond a few NM and a decent pair of mole grips will make short work of them, once you have a turn into them they spin off by hand easily.
