hi,
i've had a few different weekend cars over the years and recently bought a GT4.
I'm contemplating the cargraphic module to enhance sound so if anyone has done this and has feedback that would be great!

For a few years now I keep wandering to the 991 GT3 listings on autotrader and you can get a decent one for around £90k.
I understand the Turbo s is the whole package but i have other cars and it wont be my daily driver so impracticality is fine.
The question I am have....: Is it worth forking out £30k to go from a GT4 to a GT3?

cheers

It all depends on your wealth. If you have the money spare then I would say yes but if you have to stretch for it , I'd stick with what you have.

Bare in mind the £90k car you refer too is probably a Gen 1 car with the associated engine risk / problems.

This is a very individual thing, we all have likes and dislikes and want different things from our cars. So this is a very personal opinion.

I went from a Cayman GTS, which I had specced from new with buckets, PCCB, nice interior, X73, PTV etc to a 981 GT4 and wasn't really enamoured with it. For me I found the high revs when cruising, noise, stiff clutch too much (yes I know, others who are stronger than me don't find the clutch stiff). There wasn't a big enough increase in HP over the CGTS to cover those shortfalls.

From that I had a year of a boring car then thought it must have been me, everyone raves about the GT4 so I bought another one. Durr, six months later I had had enough again and went to a 991.2 GT3. This felt a huge step up in speed, theatre and enjoyment. Yes it still revs too high when cruising (for me, no one else seems to care) but the engine is not right behind your lughole and when it spins up to 9000 rpm it's such a giggle it never gets old.

After a year of that, prices dropping I decided I couldn't afford the car really so was watching the mileage, not going out in winter etc. so sold it.

After another year of a CGTS I then bought a 991.1 GT3 from an OPC, with it's original engine. A year on and 3 trackdays and sure enough I was supplied with a new G series crate engine with very little hassle.

So, for me, a 991.1 GT3 is everything I wanted from a GT car, addictive power, great sound, snappy PDK, the missus likes the look of it and the room in the back and we can afford it so use it as a when we please. nearly three years now and 22k miles and with the peace of mind of the Porsche warranty I plan on keeping it to the grave.

They are just brilliant on track as well, the PDK enables amateurs like me to not worry about missed shifts etc and push to the max of my capabilities.

If you can get a go in one, for me it was a step change from a 981 GT4. But like I said, that's just me and what I like from a sports car.

Would I prefer a .2 GT3? Yes, but at the time it was £35k difference and they're not that different, to me.

I think with the extended warranty these are looking great value imo which would give you cover for another 5 years (assuming you extend). Its easy to check if it has the G6 engine and that would be essential if I were to upgrade.

Having owned both without a doubt a 991.1GT3 is a huge step up from a 981GT4 (or a 718GT4). The mechanical package is on a whole different level, the driving experience is much more visceral and nuanced in the GT3. The obvious one is PDK vs Manual but this debate has been done to death, suffice to say the GT3 engine/PDK package is sublime. No wheezy old 3.8L engine in a GT3 laugh
