The green "Hold" indication in the speedo (718)
Discussion
It comes on when I switch on the ignition, goes away after starting, and I have never noticed it illuminating whilst driving.
It is not mentioned in the text of the manual, nor shown in the pictures of the instruments.
So what is it?
I am guessing something to do with the "gradient assistant" thing, but as I have never seen it come on, it is just a guess.
Who knows?

I think it’s for the auto-hold but mines never comes on either.
ETA - I think it only comes on with the PDK variants - https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices...

Yes - the manual v PDK differences are a bit vague in this video - and no mention of the 2 second hold before the function releases and the car rolls back!
I am surprised that the owner's manual (which does cover manual and PDK operations) makes no mention of the "Hold" light at all.

Has worked on all my manual 718s, including current Cayman GTS 4.0. Yes, hill hold. If you've never seen it come on, maybe come up for a drive in Pennine Lancashire, or somewhere similarly hilly. Stops you from rolling back on steep hill starts when the handbrake isn't engaged.
I have definitely experienced it working, but never noticed the light come on in the speedo. Apart from at switch-on. Scoates said:
Doesn’t need to be on a hill to be useful, I use it most useful when stationary in traffic - it means I can sit without the brake lights on
Note to self: Check your facts before posting - just checked my brake lights, and they stay on when using the Hold function. I’m slightly annoyed they do that, but even more annoyed I didn’t check before posting !Scoates said:

Agree, equally annoyed the brake lights stay on otherwise I’d use it more in traffic. Having to sit behind someone in standing traffic who can’t use park or handbrake is one of my pet hates. David W. said:

Press firmly on the foot brake and the car is held - as if you’ve put a handbrake on. This applies on both manual and PDK cars. Releases when you drive off. It’s very useful.
Although I have felt the hold function working on gradients, there has been no sign of the "Hold" indicator illuminating.I will have to try pressing the pedal a bit harder, and report back!
