Current private sale/trade in value of 718 GT4?
Discussion
As per the title. My Exige will be gone tomorrow and I think I want a GT4 in its place. My original thinking/max budget was 981 GT4 at mid sixties however I can see reputable traders selling 718 GT4 at low seventies..
My question is whether to really stretch my budget and try and get into a 718 but it would need to be very high sixties if I was to get there... Still looks a bit out of reach I think but the few with 15-20k ish miles on them at traders at £72k ish must have been taken in at mid sixties I guess? I'm not sure how much negotiation there is to be had with dealers at this price point, ( a grand, three grand, bugger all..? )
Has anyone seen/been offered anything at this sort of money?
I've read as much as I can about the differences so I'll need to try both as both have pros/cons however if it's a pipe dream then I'll have to settle for 981,( which still appeals in many ways anyway ).
Thanks for any insight..

IMHO on your budget go 981. To get a good spec. Low miles 718 you will be looking closer to 80 whereas a low miles good spec 981 could be had for mid to high 60s.
Beware of early 718 some were lucky to get new engines under recall but some were rebuilt at dealers, seem to think it was cars built 11/20-3/21 but happy to be corrected but personally if I was buying a 718 would go post 22 MY apparently they also sound better although not had personal experience, whereas 981 has no GPF so makes a better noise although the engine is strangled but can be sorted.
Some prefer a 981 so it’s personal choice no right or wrong car

Sometimes buying high miles for a lower price can be a false economy because that’s when things like brakes , clutch etc may need replacing. Always buy the best car for the budget which is not necessarily the newer model.
The engine issue was talked about on here it was a factory recall. Some new owners were faced with their brand new cars having engines stripped and rebuilt and not replaced.

Yes I get that.. even highish miles on a 718 needn't be much more than high teens... My budget is right on the bubble which is the dilemma/frustration but appreciate I'm lucky to be have the chance of either.
If I find I prefer the 718 then it's almost worth delaying the purchase until they depreciate a bit further or else plump for slightly higher miles..
This for instance is close..

As I say I might well choose a 981 but just asking the question.

A mate just sold his low mileage 981 GT4 in Riviera Blue , club sport etc etc. It was immaculate , and I mean immaculate. Went for 70 bags and he had no shortage of calls on it for a private sale. Just added for context.
Not paid much attention to the 981 GT4 market, but presumably the condition of the car and rareness of that colour would make your mate's car the absolute top dollar 981 GT4?rawenghey said:

I know of a sub 6k, 2 owner car, pccb, buckets etc, super mint, private sale £75k, immaterial of what some peoples opinions of them are, top drawer ones will always sell easily.
And he will get that all day long and should hold out accordingly especially with the summer fast approachingFar Cough said:

Granted its plastic dash and comforts but seems good value if the seats are what someone's after..

Thats a horrendous poverty spec car, but it takes all sorts and is subsequently no longer for sale !! Granted its plastic dash and comforts but seems good value if the seats are what someone's after..

I may be tempted to part with my 981 GT4 in the spring.
c. 5.5k miles. bucket seats, ceramics + Fabspeed headers which makes it sound incredible. Racing yellow.
Send me a message if interested.
Hi. Whether I go 981 or 718 I think I've set my heart on GT Silver. I may be swayed by others and whilst you looks super sharp I'm not sure I could own one as its a bit too loud for me..Thanks anyway. True but it has gt4 engine and suspension and apart from ceramics nothing else affects the way it drives so all other options are personal.
You can`t drive it though with your eyes shut because you dont want to look past the plastic dash !!!GT4P said:
Welcome to modern Porsche ownership, the dash and stitching is more important than the way it drives!
I agree, so many owners fretting about contrast stitching, ppf, only doing 3k miles pa and other tedium. I'd always say get the leather dash if you can (I have it), but I wouldn't turn one down if it doesn't, and the price is right. Just drive them, they'll be worthless in a few years anyway.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
