Morning All

I am thinking about changing my current car for either of the above. I realise that each has its merits or foibles, but I want to know if anyone has driven both. My main concern is the sound level inside the Spyder with the roof up. Would it just be too tedious on a continental trip. I had a n F430 spider with an aftermarket exhaust. I had to remove it due to the drone at Cruising speed on the motorway.
My guess is the GTS would be fine, but worry about the Spyder even though that would be my preferred choice. I love the look of the Spyder and think it will hold its value more than the GTS, obviously a more focused driving experience.

Thoughts / Comments?

Ive got a 718 Spyder , came from a 981 GTS.

i dont think there's a lot in it . The Spyders single skin roof obviously doesn't insulate sound quite as well but i didnt have any issues on a 4000 mile euro trip last year.

I have done 5k miles in my Spyder, including a round trip to Italy.

I have only done a couple of hundred miles in a Cayman GTS - so commenting on differences is difficult.

In the Spyder I do find the engine noise more of an obvious pain than the wind noise (top up), even though wind noise is quite high.

As an experiment - on the return journey from Italy I used some in-ear noise cancelling thingies (Bose).

(Before anyone lectures me about "safety" the earphones only reduce continuous background noise but do not inhibit my ability to hear transient noises, other vehicles, engine note, horns etc)

The white noise reduction made a significant difference to fatigue.

Several hours into the return journey I took the phones out for a while, and really noticed the difference.

Put them back in again for the rest of the journey.

I've had both the cars you're comparing. Both great cars. The Boxster's noticeably quieter on motorways. The Spyder's definitely bearable though and one car hear the Bose above the noise on motorways. Predictably road surface makes a massive difference
