987.1 2.7, poor throttle response?

I have a 987.2 S and the throttle response is very good. A family member of mine has recently bought a high mileage 987.1 2.7, I went for a drive and what struck me is just how less responsive the throttle is when rev-matching, it feels like a turbocharged car in comparison.

Is the throttle response really so hugely different? Or is there perhaps something wrong this particular car? (maybe air intake related?).
