BGTS 4.0 '22. Seems to takes ages to get up to temp? My wifes BGTS 2.5 '18 seems to warm up waaay quicker. Or is just me??? My 20min commute to work is mainly reliant on the seat heating. 1st world I know, just curious how others see it

Warm up cycle of the relatively 'new' Cayster 4.0 is very quick furthermore these engines are programmed to run relatively hot.

Worth booking your car in for an inspection to see what the problem is.

Water temp gets up to 90 in around 10-15 mins, oil temp however takes aaaaagggggeeeeesssss especially when the ambient temperature is cold.

My 4.0 oil temp used to run at 102C once warm. For about the last 6 months or so it's sat at 98C. Oil change is due in March so may change back.

My late 2023 Cayman GTS 4.0 water temperature gets to 80 degrees in 7 minutes or so. Oil runs at around 107 degrees, taking 15-20 minutes to get there. I haven't yet tried Sport or Sport Plus mode, but could well be that this makes them slower to warm up. I know in my 981 GT4 the water and oil temperature run quite a bit lower in Sport mode, but haven't yet checked this in the GTS 4.0.

Liam

[In "standard" non-Sport mode the old GT4 runs with water at about 102 degrees. The GTS 4.0 runs bang on 90 degrees pretty much all the time. Appears to be intentional on both.]

If PDK could the OP be driving from the off with sport mode activated which could be triggering the additional radiator cooling so the car takes longer to warm up...

I reckon mine took nearly 20mins in slowish MWay traffic to get to 90o water. Ambient was 1o. Not in sport mode btw. And oil seems to follow it up around 20o behind.

I noticed in the 2.5 the water hit 90o in just a few mins then you could see as the thermostatic value opened and it dropped right back to 50o ish, then re-climed slowly. But 4.0 seems to just slowly slowly creep up. I'll get it checked.

That's true, since Sport mode activates the central rad below the license plate, and that is why the temps are lower. Not sure how it impacts the warm-up cycle though.

I tend to leave mine off Sport until oil is at the normal operating range

OP - if seat heating comment means your seat isn't hot then worth getting checked since the seat is electrically heated and should do so quickly. However, if the ambient temperature is cold and PCM, blowers are active then it could be switched off temporarily. Believe the systems do this to manage battery drain

Seat heating is fine...thank god! Its all that keeps me warm for the best part of 15mins

For reference, my previous 997.2 Carrera S (3.8) would consistently take a good 20 minutes to get its oil up to temp. I invariably pootled for the first part of any journey…

I guess there's no room in the Cayster for active radiator shutters, as on the Macan?

Our Macan S coolant takes 5 minutes to 90 degrees. I think this helps the oil warm up quicker too. Certainly better then the 981 for cabin heating. Heated steering wheel in the Macan is lovely and would now be my number one option ahead of PASM.

What triggers the central radiator into use with manual cars?

There will be no flow from the radiators until it reaches the correct temp to open the thermostat anyway I would have thought.

I'd expect cosy hot air to be coming out of the heaters within an absolute maximum of 5mins in any car.

Cheers,
Dunc.

I do the same trip to work and have tried my 718 s 2.5 in sports mode and normal and it make no difference to when the oil gets to 80 or 90 degrees. It just tends to stick at 95 degrees in sports and a little higher in normal mode when cruising. Not sure if the 4.0 is different.

Presumably driving style.

There is still a sport mode in a manual car. (Selectable with the rotary control on the wheel). Alters the throttle map and switches on the auto-blip function. And the additional cooling.
