It looks like the delayed Maycan EV will be released shortly . The next 911 is supposed to be hybrid. The next Caymen is supposed to be EV only. We are confident the next 911 GT cars will be N/A because they are halo models. Do you think the next Caymen Gt4 will be an EV or a ICE? I have a 718 spyder which I have owned from new and in my perfect spec. I don’t know if I should keep it or think about selling it. I would hate to sell it and find out the next Caymen gt4 is electric only.

Keep your Spyder because as you rightly say the next Cayster GT4/Spyder...when it finally arrives and at what exhorbitant cost.....will be EV.

The electric Boxster mule is out testing. Have s search on Rennlist. I believe they are running ICE 718 and EV 718 at same time but am not sure ICE will be for European customers. So i would keep the Spider…..but ithers here will know better than me!

Rate of energy consumption, the requirement for heat management and mass all mitigate substantially away from a GT Ev ...

Hybrid maybe ... but the Hybrid part adds significant weight and complexity if it is to add much to the performance of a GT product ... ??

They'll need to balance their CO2 across the whole model range presumably. Increasing the EVs will allow the continuation of ICE models for several years, but it's speculation as to how they do it.

Porsche being Porsche, they will definitely be going for all the EV lap records and probably in most of the sectors. The latest Taycan GT testing is the clue. This will be their USP moving forward and they'll want to be the manufacturer that still produces cars that can have a bit of fun on a track day without undue modification.

What will the ICE models look like? Surely it'll be phased and so the withdrawal of base models and gradually heading towards the GT range. Probably a hybrid turbo S 911. I'm not sure where they go next with the GT3 RS? Maybe a bigger engine still? After the 911R came the GT3 Touring, so maybe they will do a version of the S/T, but badged differently and in higher volumes. It makes sense given that it's less complicated and so cheaper to produce. Profit is still the main concern after all. I would have thought after the 992 production ends, there will be more than enough GT3s out there to keep everyone happy for years to come anyway.

Caterham may well have a niche market, if they can deliver on the weight...

My money would be on EV GT4

Reasons as follows

718 generally is going to be EV would the economics of having one or maybe two ICE cars (4.0GT equivalent) stack up? A whole divergence in the platform just for these models?

Balancing the fleet averages might mean they can only preserve the GT3 petrol engines. These cars make a lot of money for Porsche so makes sense to look after the cash cow.

First to market. This is the big one as I see it that Porsche have the opportunity to do what they do so so well and get in and establish themselves as market leader for a new sector this time the full EV sports car.

Doing EV means they will have skipped the hybrid step but then they have done this with the Macan as well.

I reckon a hybrid could be on the cards but absolutely no chance of another 6 cylinder engine.

apparently theres a new 3.6 na unit going in the 992.2.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a46167074/2025-p...

so there is a possibility of a new na gt4. wouldnt be first time porsche back track on what they have said. i'd go with unlikely though.

Interesting. GT4 was made on the GT3 production line wasn't it?

I thought that the Mission R is pretty much a test mule for a future electric Cayman?

I just can’t see the point of a EV GT4 (for me).

I suppose if all you did was to track one and tracks had super fast chargers you *might* want one if you was into ‘winning track days’.

If the platform is developed to be an EV will it even be possible to make it into ICE? And, if the UK introduces a ban on ICE from 2030 (Labour have said they'll reintroduce this I think), is there any point for Porsche selling it here?
In short I don't see the next GT4 being anything other than an EV.

This - Once Porsche take a decision thats it, the ICE GT4 is dead long live the GT4 the wonderful sunny uplands of future motoring is silent leccy which big brother says you WILL enjoy.

Fridaypassion is right there will be no more ICE GT4 once Porsche make a decision thats it, the future of motoring has been decided by big brother whether you like to or not.
My medium term plan is to change the 981 GT4 for a 718 GT4 PDK and that will be my last and keeper Porsche.

I have said in other post I genuinely feel sorry for the manufacturers and car buyers because no one knows if they are coming or going. I agree there is no point of a Gt4 track car that can do one or two laps of the Nurburgring. I am yet to be convinced we will go full ev because just can not see where everyone will charge their cars in the evening or at work. It would not surprise me if there is a change of policy and the ice engine continues for a lot longer.

Well no doubt the VAG group will ultimately dictate when the actual switchover comes if it ever does they are 100% responsible for the switch to 2035 from 2030 certainly not Sunak! . Thinking about it a bit more can Porsche really not do a Cayman/Boxter in Petrol? We have 6 years at least to go depending which way the political winds blow handily about a model cycle for Porsche give or take. Will they really allow Alpine and Lotus to just have all the ICE sales in this sector for 6 years? I can't see that but I also can't see how they can have architecture for ICE and EV in the same platform. This leaves the possibility of actually leaving 718 alone and actually introducing a new model that's the EV 718. This would seem to fit more and expands the potential fleet averages a bit more although electrifying Macan will surely do all they need on that front?

I expect the next 718 platform to be the ICE platform updated to take EV running gear just like the new EV Macan is. So an ICE/hybrid GT4 would still be possible.
