Hello, Cayman GTS 4.0!
Discussion
I've decided to treat myself to my first Porsche as I've been a long-time lurker. I've just bought a Cayman GTS 4.0 with the manual gearbox - what I call a "dinosaur" spec.
I wanted a modern car that was as simple as possible - no turbo, no automatic boxes, less technology. I love the physical switches for everything, no touchscreens for controls is great.
The car had only done less than 500 miles by the previous owner in about a year, so for me, it feels like a brand new car (never had the brand new smell inside!). I got 4yr warranty (2yr remaining manufacturer, 2yr approved used), so don't have to worry for quite a while. The car was specced exactly as I would have done it myself, so I jumped on the opportunity to buy it:

- GT Silver
- GTS Interior
- 18-way Adaptive Seats
- BOSE
- PSP
- Bi-xenon PDLS
- Light Design Package
- Folding Mirrors
- ParkAssist + Camera
- Two Zone Climate Control
- Multifunction GT Sports Steering
- Steering column in leather
- Sun visors in Race Tex
- 316i (E46) (sold)
- 330Ci (E46, LCI) (own)
- 340i (F30, LCI) (sold)
- M4 Competition (F82, LCI, manual) (sold)
- 340i (F30, MPPSK) (own)
Impressions
It's very early days, so a few quick impressions:
- Exhaust Sound: it sounds great from the inside, don't really care about the outside. There's no pops and bangs - love it. My other cars have/had loud pops and they become obnoxious very quickly. In the future, I'll do a drive-by test to hear how the car sounds from the outside.
- Gearing: The long gearing has been written about endlessly but for me, it's a nothingburger. Around town and in normal driving, the car has enough torque for this to not be an issue. During spirited driving, I can put it in 2nd and just focus on everything else - if I really need fast acceleration at super slow speeds, 1st gear is a usable gear.
- Practicality: Much, much less practical than any of my BMWs - space, ingress/egress, filling up, etc. I don't think I would want to put up with the inconveniences as a daily driver.
- Manual Gearbox: Honestly, one of the main reasons to buy the car - what an amazing gearbox. One of the best, period.
- Comfort/ride: Amazing, it rides better than my F30 - less crashy but a bit firmer. It's like pure magic.
- Ride Height: Mostly fine but I have lots of speedbumps on my road and a driveaway at an angle, so I have to approach at specific angles. I still have to worry about where I go and how I approach but so far, no real problems.

Looks great, agree 100% the “long gearing” is a bit of an internet myth.
The tall gearing isn't an internet myth. The fact that you can drive off from a standstill and then exceed legal motorway speeds by 15mph in 2nd gear alone tells you all you need to know. In the Alps and the Pyrenees, you find yourself never changing out of 2nd. 1st is too short and 3rd is too tall. Don't get me wrong I've driven these in both PDK and manual and would have a manual every time. The car is near perfect but I wish I could have shorter gears everywhere except for the already too short 6th gear.
Well done OP, that does indeed look very nice. I think choosing an understated, classy spec for the GTS suits it. Wolf in sheep's clothing (relatively speaking for a Porsche sportscar!).
Been out in mine today, very similar spec to yours except no Power Steering Plus and just the basic seats. Mine's Gentian Blue with Satin Platinum wheels.
Enjoy!

Could anyone on here shed some light on how much the overall running cost of one of these is please?
Looking at spending about £65k on one towards the end of 2024, it will be used daily and will probably cover around 12k miles a year.
I read on some review pages the other day a figure of £1.89 per mile all in. This kind of worries me a bit.
Any answers would be much appreciated.

Calculator on here should give a rough idea.Looking at spending about £65k on one towards the end of 2024, it will be used daily and will probably cover around 12k miles a year.

Tbh, that mileage would be far cheaper in a 2.0.

Cracking motor! Love the spec, reminds me of my gen2 987 Cayman S - silver with silver wheels! I wanted a modern car that was as simple as possible - no turbo, no automatic boxes, less technology. I love the physical switches for everything, no touchscreens for controls is great.

I am not far from Sevenoaks, more than happy to go for a meet!
