Hello everyone

I have a 981 boxster s that I purchased 3 years ago. It has 61000 miles on it from which I've only done 10k of it. It has FSH so far.

I believe I'm due for a minor and potentially a major service.

I'm wondering:

1. Should I be doing the minor service with porsche? I think it costs around 700-800. Is that correct? Is it worth doing it with porsche given that if I don't do it, it breaks the FSH.

2. And what about the major service? Is it worth doing it with porsche as oppose to a third party vendor?

What are the drawbacks to be aware of when I'm breaking FSH and is it worth keeping it?

Minor shouldn't be anywhere near that from memory, more like 4-500, that sounds more like a major.

Have you extended warranty, do you plan to? If so I would go Porsche. If not you could use a good indy, but I would expect you won't get the same amount come sale time, some Porsche owners will only want a full Porsche history, some people will be happy to take it regardless but I'd expect you will make less cash.

Well, I just called two of the ones in London and both were above 900 for minor.

My view is that a car of this age should be going to a speciialist like JZM (who have done a great job for me)!.

You will save a fair few pounds, they do what is required and their name on a service record is a good one. Their stamp would encourage me to consider buying a specific car.

If you have a Porsche warranty or intend to buy one then go to an OPC. If you dont' and have no intention to get a Porsche warranty then go to an Indie.

A reputable indie's stamp in the service book is worth just as much as an OPC if not more.

Presumably a car no longer has a FSH if it has missed a timed service interval, which if it's not had a service in the 3 years owning the car would certainly be the case?

As others have said, if you plan to OPC warranty it then you'll need Porsche service + 111 point check. If you're going for a Major service then most OPC will waive the 111 point check price as there's a high overlap with the Major

I'd be going indy and saving some money.

Unless you've got the warranty on, which I wouldn't do at this age

Thank you all for all the responses.

I know this is a difficult question to answer but perhaps you can help me look at it with a different lens. Do you think it's worthwhile getting the warranty?

Also if I go with specialized indies, does that affect the resale price?

Warranty is based on your appetite for risk and what could go wrong. 981 are bulletproof IMHO and other than dynamic engine mounts, the PSE valves everything else seems OK, most other stuff are consumables and excluded from warranty.

I’d expect OPC to charge now £700+ for a minor, they might waiver the 111-point check if it has FPSH otherwise factor that in and the warranty cost. Either way it’s going to be the thick end of £1,500 for a year with the service etc (£2k if you go 2yr warranty).

What do you intend doing with the car? If you’re going to sell it then some might be attracted by the warranty but won’t necessarily want to pay for it. If you keep it you’re tied in to OPC servicing so your major will be c£1,400 when it comes round in another 2yrs.

Would I run one on a warranty? No. Would I use OPC for servicing at their prices? No. Would I buy a 981 without full Porsche service history? Yes
